Buy a perm pet for auto mp pot?

I am currently really inactive, but I get on occasionally to check the updates and I found out that you can now buy permanent pets. I will become a BM someday (not very soon) and I'm thinking I should buy a perm pet to help with the auto-mp pot. My question is will auto-mp pot be unnecessary when the Big Bang patch comes into effect? Or will it still be necessary (which would make it a good idea to take advantage of the perm-pet event)?
