MapleStory on a external hard drive

I was just wondering if there is a way to put maplestory on a external hard drive and play it from my XP. My dad won't let me download it on this computer but I wanna play it on the computer because its easier to play on XP. So is there anyway? I tried putting it on and just play from there and it didn't work.

If its an external hard drive, make sure the proper drivers are installed. Your more likely to get it to work properly if you use a USB drive. As USB drives tend to be recognized by Microsoft more often and automatically installed.

Anyways: Usually drivers come with the external drive in a CD. But to check, if it automaticly installed. Go plug in the hard drive >> Go to my computer >> And under hard drives. Look for the hard drive you plugged in. If you can access it, most likely it installed correctly. If its working correctly, then that means MS needs to have registry's added to your dad's XP computer. For that to work correctly: Download MS from the Maple Story website >> Download the file to the external hard drive >> Once done, run the installer on the XP computer, but instead. Have MS install into your external hard drive. Such as E:NexonMapleStory instead of the default C:NexonMapleStory Once the installer is done, Maple Story should be installed on the external hard drive. While keeping only the registry's needed to run the game on the XP computer.

DON'T WORRY ABOUT INSTALLING ANY DRIVERS. If you can plug in the external drive and SEE the drive/access the folders/files, then it's ALREADY GOT the drivers it needs. Also, Maple Story doesn't need anything special about the registry to run. The only thing stored in the registry is the location of the desktop icon and you don't need that to be able to play the game. You can make a new icon on the XP computer's desktop if you want to, or if your Dad would object to that too (like if he doesn't understand about the files not actually being on that computer), you can run it directly from the files on the external hard drive. HOW did you copy the Maple Story files..? The best way is to COPY the whole C:/Nexon/Maplestory folder from the original computer and PASTE onto the external drive. (This should take a while because the Maplestory folder is 2.1GB. If it only takes a "flash" to copy, you're doing it wrong.) Then take it and plug it into the XP computer, open the external drive, open the Maplestory folder and double click on "Gamelauncher.exe". That should start it up and bypass the need to log in at the website, and take you to the "old" login page that Maple used to use. (I launch mine that way all the time anyway to avoid opening my browser needlessly.) You can also just double click on "Maplestory.exe" if you'd rather use the web site login. To make an icon on the XP computer's desktop, open the external hard drive, open the Maplestory folder and RIGHT-click on whichever of the two startup files you'd like to use ("Maplestory.exe" for the web login, "Gamelauncher.exe" for the "old" login"). Select "Send to..." from the popup menu, then select "Desktop" to make a new icon. Note that the icon won't do anything unless the external drive is plugged in. Again, if that makes your Dad nervous, don't bother with it, just start from the files.
