Buddha: Why so fat?

I heard that "Buddha" traveled across Asia on feet helping people. But as they portrayed him, he is Obese and disgustingly fat. Why is that? Did he eat like McDonalds as he walked? :D

Most people didn't have a lot of food. Being fat showed that you were wealthy. Or something like that. Or maybe he just liked the idea of the Dollar Menu.
