I need advice on getting over someone

So my girlfriend recently broke up with me ): She was my first love and first girlfriend. I'm trying to get over her but what I'm doing isn't work that well. Can you guys give me some advice on how to get over my ex?

@ The people who say I didn't love her, yes I actually did. I trying to distance myself from anything that reminds me of her, but my the thought of her just always creeps back into my mind. The only time she's out of my mind for a long time is when I'm out with my friends and, like the second poster said, I can't be with my friends 24/7. EDIT: Playing my music loud also drowns out the thought of her.

Time. Although it may not feel like it now, time heals most wounds. There are those that don't recover, but first relationships are almost never as big as that. For many people, their first breakup comes as a big shock to them. In the meanwhile, don't try too hard to cling on too hard to things that are related to her; it'll only make things worse on your part. I find that it helps to spend some time alone (not crying and beating myself down), just to let your mind wander. Eventually, after some time of reflection, you'll develop your own values and ideals for what you want your relationships to be like. And what you do from there is all your call.
