Nx ratio onfusion

So I wanted to buy 500nx from a guildie at a ratio of 1:12. 500nx at 1:12, I believe, should be 6m? (1000=12m, 500=6m <- Multiply both sides by 0.5) However, she does this weird thing how she subtracts the ratio : (1000=12m 500=7m <-Subtract both sides by 5) A ratio is the relative magnitudes of two quantities, and from what I know, it can be expressed as a fraction, and thus, can't be added/subtracted. So...I just want to clear things up. (No flames, regardless of who is right) Oh, and thread title is meant to be confusion*, sorry if any of you were confused by that.
