Messenger or Regular Backpacks?

So I need help deciding what type of backpack to get for the upcoming school year... If it helps, it's what I'm planning to do with it: - Carry a laptop in it - Ride mostly on public transportation - buses, bike, etc (since SF isn't really meant for cars) - Entering as a College freshman ( so what do most college people wear to school? ) Please feel free to discuss: 1. The pros/cons 2. What you like/dislike about them 3. What would you would prefer if you were in my situation ( stated above ) Thanks for all your inputs! (=

messenger bag would probably suit your situation better though (laptop, public transport, and college course material)

Btw, messenger bags are also getting more popular (the leather, vintage looking ones) and since your in college, carrying around too many textbooks won't be a big deal since I'm guessing your classes are spread out

Regular backpack. I'm a college student. I carry my laptop + books. Messenger bags don't fit everything you are going to carry.

regular backpacks. they carry more stuff. and as i found out during the first month of school freshman year, they really hurt your shoulders. and they are heavy since the weight is not evenly balanced on your back. use a laptop case for your laptop, not a backpack unless it has a special compartment for it, though.

I hate messenger bags because it makes me feel like I'm lopsided and there's just so much weight on one side. I'd definitely go with a regular one because it feels better, weight is more balanced out and stuff. I'd feel awkward if I had my laptop constantly bugging me at the side of my leg.

Now in more seriousness based on his needs - Carry a laptop in it - Messenger Bag definitly - Ride mostly on public transportation - Messenger because they can rest on your lap without looking awkward - Entering as a College freshman - Well if its a higher class College then messenger but if its like a local one then regular
