| Within the last 30 minutes or an hour someone went on a scrolling spree. They may have blown it up by now, but last smega it was FOURTEEN ENHANCEMENTS in a Red Craven. I have an SS, its pending. I dont know stats, it doesnt say. All I can say is HOLY CRAP. It it luck or a packet edit or hack? Discuss. |

|
chrisun1000 : Assumptions. There's always a possibility. I'm not saying he isn't hacking, im saying that people need to learn not to assume things about people without valid evidence. Saying that there isn't a chance is not valid. What are the odds of you winning the lottery? Not a lot at all. People still win.
You truly do not understand probability theory or the vast scale of the numbers we're dealing with here. He's almost up to 10^-23 chance of it happening legitimately. If one had 10000000000000000000000 grapefruits (about a 'mole' for your chemistry majors out there), it would be the size of the earth. That many popcorn kernals would cover the US 9 miles deep. That many donut holes would cover the entire earth for 5 miles. You can cling to any hopes you want by saying "But it's still POSSIBLE", but you just sound silly and irrational. I'm sorry, but it's simply not rational to say it was not a hack. Put another way, if I tried to land 25 enhancements in a row, once per second, it would take me roughly 31709791984 CENTURIES (not years) for me to have a 50/50 change. |

Even if it's 1/8,000,000,000 chance, there's still that one chance. To say it's impossible is more silly and irrational. |

|
myrdrex : No, it's not possible. At some point you need the universe's allotted lifespan to have something occur. That's effectively impossible. It's technically possible to snap my fingers and have it cause a massive chain reaction of air particles that cause a tsunami in china that accidentally collapses a wall of a military bunker that accidentally lands on a button that launches a nuclear weapon that starts off world war 3 and kills all life as we know it. *snap* Oh wait, we're still here. Why is that? Because it's so unlikely that it's impossible.
Unlikely doesn't mean impossible. Besides, have you thought of the contributing factors to your theory? Have you considered: where your current location is, the weather in China, the strength of the wall, and the how to activate the button? What if you snapped your fingers right next to the ocean, instead of at wherever you are right now? What if it's raining in China right now? What if the wall is a piece of crap? What if the button is right under the wall, and can be activated by dust particles, and a piece of dust just happens to fall on it? |

Saying that there isn't a chance is not valid. What are the odds of you winning the lottery? Not a lot at all. People still win.
Okay I lied, I'm not done here. Why do people still win the lottery despite the odds? Because they MUST, it is within the rules that defines it that someone must win, thus someone does. That comment was irrelevant to the statistical argument at hand. You think people are basing this on statistics alone? How is Sherlock ever able to convict anyone when the possbilities in this world are bound only by the imaginations of man? By METRICS! If you were to build a machine that scrolled one item per minute at 1:100,000,000,000 odds like passing 22+ scrolls in a row would be. It would take an eternity before the possiblity of passing it would occur. It takes you many many than a lifetime to count to that, do you understand? The evidence is all around you. This is maple story. Who in their right mind would continue and risk losing someothing so valuable, just to test their luck and lose out on actual value they currently own? Only a person who doesn't care about the game. Who doesn't care about the game? Hackers. How has the capabilit to pass so many scrolls in a row? Hackers. Who in the past have done this kind of thing time and time again? Hackers. Men have been sentenced to death with far less proof than this. If you're going to teach a lesson of not assuming, don't do it here where the evidence is overwhelming. |
Yes, your point is that in spite of the most overwhelming pieces of evidence, there is still a chance. While it is true, that is not for this case, considering all the other factors you must take into account. No two people think the exact same, but no single person in their right mind would bother trying to do something that would be 1 in a trillion, and therein lies the absurdity of your argument - that you think people may possibly gamble with those odds. |
