He basically burned up most, if not all of the cultural past. He wanted to westernize China by imitating the economy of the west, because he saw how successful and superior it was. Edit- I wish I could retake World History AP. So dang interesting.

He was a communist leader. You can choose if he was good or bad. Bad- communism. If you're in america then your teacher will consider it bad. good- raised the standards of living for millions of people.

The Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution was something Mao Zedong attempted to implement in the Chinese government to equalize everyone, if that makes any sense. I can't exactly remember dates and details, and I really don't want to go through my notes at this hour. I can tell you that Mao was influenced greatly by Karl Marx. During the GLF/CR, Mao promoted and encouraged agricultural activity and the production of steel. Also, a famine occurred during this period of time, causing 20 million (?) deaths. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_Revolution good source. wiki is your friend.

Wiki can't really be trusted. Anyone can just post. On topic. If this is your homework, you need to do some researching and don't ask random people on basil.

The Great Leap Forward was a disaster initiated by Mao Zedong. Heaps of Chinese people acknowledge it was horrible and the results intended did not happen.
