Why are Hermits called 'Hermits'?

Why is the 3rd job assassin class called a Hermit. According to dictionary.com the definition for a hermit is: noun 1. a person who has withdrawn to a solitary place for a life of religious seclusion. 2. any person living in seclusion; recluse. 3. Zoology . an animal of solitary habits. 4. Ornithology . any of numerous hummingbirds of the genera Glaucis and Phaethornis, having curved bills and dull-colored rather than iridescent plumage. 5. a spiced molasses cookie often containing raisins or nuts. 6. Obsolete . a beadsman. Can anyone explain this to me? I don't recall being a cookie or a loner :x

Well if you think of it, sins/bandits are more dark and shadowy. Secluded just like a hermit.

Because assassins, in ancient times, usually worked alone or in an organization that was separated from the common people. For example, the Hassassins were said to live int he mountains with the Old Man of the Mountains. Ninjas were trained by masters in secret places. Bounty Hunters, a form of assassin you could say, were constantly on the move, alone. Mercenaries, killers for hire basically, were looked down upon by warriors.
