Not too early to get onto this. This patch is going to end up changing up skills like no tomorrow. We'll have a new formula, skills nerfed, skills improved, skills removed, and skills added. So with such changes I think it's a good idea to clear up ideas as to what would be ideal for whatever circumstance at whatever points in an I/L's life. This site has all the skill tables for Magicians up (as far as I know). I find it more convenient to just add this link here instead of posting the necessary skill tables here, because there you can see pretty pictures, it's easier to get to it, less scrolling is required, and you can look at the skill tables of other classes. Table of Contents Beginner (lol) First Job Second Job Third Job Fourth Job Beginner Level 2: Nimble Feet + 1 Level 3: Nimble Feet + 1 (2) Level 4: Nimble Feet + 1 (3 - MAXED ) Level 5: Three Snails + 1 Level 6: Three Snails + 1 (2) Level 7: Three Snails + 1 (3 - MAXED ) Not going to go into a huge amount of detail here since there's only 6 SP to obtain and distribute. Obviously you can do whatever you want since this ultimately has no effect on you in the future at all. Except maybe for Three Snails. Maxing that will allow you shove all 10 of your first SP as a Magician just like that. So long as Three Snails is maxed, whatever anyone does should be fine. First Job Advancement: The Magician Level 8: MP Increase +1 Level 9: MP Increase + 3 (4) Level 10: MP Increase + 3 (7) Level 11: MP Increase + 3 (10 - MAXED ) Level 12: Energy Bolt + 1, Magic Claw + 2 Level 13: Magic Claw + 3 (5) Level 14: Magic Claw + 3 (8) Level 15: Magic Claw + 3 (11) Level 16: Magic Claw + 3 (14) Level 17: Magic Claw + 3 (17) Level 18: Magic Claw + 3 (20 - MAXED ) Level 19: Magic Armour + 3 (yes, I'm Canadian) Level 20: Magic Armour + 3 (6) Level 21: Magic Armour + 3 (9) Level 22: Magic Armour + 3 (12) Level 23: Magic Armour + 3 (15 - MAXED ) Level 24: Magic Guard + 3 Level 25: Magic Guard + 3 (6) Level 26: Magic Guard + 3 (9) Level 27: Magic Guard + 3 (12) Level 28: Magic Guard + 3 (15 - MAXED ) Level 29: Energy Bolt + 3 (4) Level 30: Energy Bolt + 3 (7) This looks like the best thing to do for anyone wanting to get further with their I/L. First MP Increase is maxed. I shouldn't have to explain why this is done as such, but just to be safe, to describe why this is done in a nutshell, more MP = good. Next Magic Claw is maxed so as to allow you to stop having to use Three Snails as soon as possible. There's no Improving MP Recovery anymore so there's no money saving route this time around. You can pick either of the attack skills; I chose Magic Claw because it seems to have an improved vertical range and is able to hit 2 monsters now, despite Energy Bolt overall hitting harder. The other option is to max both, which would put Magic Armour at level 2 (for the sake of animation). I decided to max it because now it also increases Magic Defense, and both stats are ultimately raised by 120 (so it's a bit more potent; and

So now that thunderbolt and cold beam have a max out at 20, will we get a sp reset for 20 or something?

I don't have to go through this again heh.. I'll see what useful skills for me and max them. Looks good for those starting a new I/L, but again shouldn't thunderbolt be first? Yes you get more damage from mastery but I think it should be the second skill to max after thunderbolt.. or it should be 2 thunderbolt 1 Mastery after every lv Anyways thanks for posting this. =]

Hm. Hm hm hm. I'm not sure what to think about all this. Very good first-draft guide, btw. I played 2nd job back in 2006 when no one EVER got Slow because the rationale was "hey, ice, you freeze things, no need to slow them down." But nowadays there are about 5 times more maps than there were back then, and different monsters, so I used some of my free SP resets to get 10 Slow this time. I agree that you don't need any more than 10 Slow, too, because there are still more instances where you won't use it than you will. kittykat200 : Here's where I'm going to advocate getting both Comp and TS. Currently, I have both. This is an "old-school" build since these days, many people who are going for purely strategic, training-map-based builds will skip BOTH of them, which goes against my "play for versatile training at multiple places, and shiny animations!" philosophy. However, as the guide-author pointed out, TS is going to be a mobbing skill in the future. This is a problem, because if the monsters aren't all stunned by TS, then you're going to have aggravated a lot of monsters at once who'll be firing magic attacks at you. Slowing them down does nothing to keep them from attacking you. Which is where Comp comes in. When you use a giant mobbing skill like Blizzard (pre-BB) or Big Bang (post-BB), you're not going to be able to 1HKO or 2HKO all the monster you attack, for a few levels. You need a good 1v1 attack. These days, TS is my 1v1 finishing move (because CL attacks too many), but since TS is getting mob capabilities in the future, Comp is going to be the last bastion of 1v1 attacks that you can use to pick off the stragglers you didn't kill with CL or Blizz or IS or whatever. As for 4th job, I have a feeling many new skill builds are going to focus on getting less Blizzard first and more CL. I've been deciding whether or not to max Blizz out entirely (let's not even talk about how expensive multiple Blizz30s are) and where to start CL, and where your dinky MW falls into all of this, too. Not gonna lie, the BB makes me want to quit my I/L because I can't help my friends with Blizz anymore, with the cooldown. But I love I/Ls too much. I/L and proud since 2006! <3

Haha, 2006 for me too, except Im only lv104. xD I think im going to get both comp and thunder spear, but that means for post-BB ill have to somehow not put points into another skill.

They put a point in their new mob skill and then get Mastery. It is possible that maxing Thunderbolt first or doing some split thing will produce a higher or similar damage output as what I listed above, but I really do not want to calculate that right now, especially with random critical chances all over the place (maybe I could try doing it without that, but we'll see). |

Could I also drop Cold Beam to max both Slow/MP Eater and eventually add the remaining points into Cold Beam?

I supposed TS is gonna be faster due to the skill description? I can't wait to train at vikings :D, but then it will not be able to compare against CL except for the stun aspect. As for 4th job, Big Bang first then CL, man I hate how I ignored big bang skillbooks before, now they're gonna inflate
