| So just about 20mins ago, my dad walked into my room and he noticed that there were scratches on my bed header. He asks, "how did it get there?" And I replied, "I did it when I was younger." So then, my dad gets mad telling me how it's not mine and how I shouldn't destroy other people's property. In conclusion, he tells me that I have to give him $100. I'm like, "What! It's only small scratches!" And then he's like, "so? How would you like it if I scratched up your phone?" And I said, "Go ahead, it's already in crappy condition." And then he's like, "so what? You can either forfeit $100 or your laptop" and he left the room. Okay so, it's not fair how I had to pay him $100 for small damages. Like, I'd pay him $20 max. for it. Also, little did he know is that I made those scratches because one night, I was feeling really down, and when I was about to cut myself, I quickly stopped and started scratching my bed header. That was also the last time I cut myself. I know it wasn't the right thing to do, but it prevented me from hurting myself. =/ And this other time, my religion teacher (ughh, I hate her so much) sent my credit endangerment letter and my dad received it and took away my laptop for 2 months... I had to use my dinosaur computer for that 2 months to do my projects. Opinions, share stories, advice? |

| Meh. It's not absurd. The punishment isn't absurd. Making you replace it is kind of over the top. He's trying to teach you manners in a way I guess. It'll instill in you, and will make you more careful towards other people property. Even your mom said so. Sure, she didn't charge you, but as a man, he's trying to also show superiority. Btw, why should you be cutting yourself at the age of 15 or less. Little kids who thinks their life is tough and depressing is kind of funny when they haven't gotten through any real milestones in life. Edit - Either way it seems like OP is afraid of his dad and the only way he WON'T pay the 100$ is if the father decides not to take it. He's screwed. |

| I think that since you're 15, and hardly have any money coming in, that that is unreasonable. Yes, sadly you can't really do anything about it. But it doesn't seem very fair. |

| I feel kind of bad for you really, between me and my mom (she's a single parent), what's hers is mine and what's mine is hers. OT: He's really unfair and ambigous, he's your freaking father for christ sake. |

| Ask your dad if he'll let you fix up the headboard yourself w/ wood filler. There'd be no reason for him to demand $100 if the headboard undamaged and you learn your lesson. I'm sure it was just anger from the moment and he'd consider more rational approaches. Also, how can you not own the bed you sleep in? just curious |

| My advice: Kill him and take the money and laptop back. Then sell his body on the black market. Problem solved. |

|
NoobCake : That's if you're 18 or older. I'm 15, and deliver to papers. I make around $125-150, and like $20-40 goes towards my phone bill. I get this per month
You can start working at 16, 14-15 at Mcdonalds or Tim Hortons. |

| When you grow up, make sure YOU teach him a lesson. Emotionally a parent will learn if they aren't heartless, and they will realize what they did wrong. When you move out, never send a letter or email or any form of contact when your on your own. They will eventually wonder in their mind why their child doesn't talk to them or tell them anything. And once he begs you to come back, you can either hurt him or forgive him. People like him I hate so much. Parents these days... |
