How will my damage compare? (1hsword)

I want to know if it was worth going 1 handed, i have a 87 atk 8 str glowing whip, and a 7 str 14 atk shield. At lvl 50 will my damage keep up with those of the 2 handed sword branch?

I believe that with a 14 attack shield and that kind of whip, you will be plenty okay. You will be on-par.

You should be ok, but the 1-h sword reach before brandish has always been annoying to me.

In my experience, I've realized 14 attack breaks even with the whole weapon speed thing, so if your 1h is comparable to your 2h in attack, go 1h. Not sure about the math, I haven't done that crap for a good year now. But just go 1H

Sorry if I offended anyone o_o. @TS I never really used whips at a lower level so could you tell me if they're fast 4 ? Jap maps are fast 4 so if they are, try both of them on and see which is a higher dmg range. If the whip is fast 5 then definitely map>whip

Using a 14 atk shield with a 1 handed sword will equal a 2 handed sword with the same weapon attack as your 1 handed sword (actually you do just a bit more with a 14 atk shield and 1 handed sword). Any additional attack points above 14 is pure gravy (more damage). The real difference is attack range (distance that you can hit monsters), until you build up your fourth job skills. Brandish and Blast have set ranges, so it does not make any difference, but Power Strike and Slash Blast depend on weapon size to determine how far away you may hit mobs. With this in mind, 2handed swords are better (for thier reach) than 1 handed weapons when using PS or SB. While 1 handed weapon do not have the reach of the 2 handed weapons, they also do not have the "blind spot" that 2 handed weapons have, which is directly in front of you. One additional difference between is weapon speed, 1 handed swords have a fast speed, and almost all 2 handed swords have a normal speed (few exceptions, ST etc). Weapon speed plays an important part in how much damage that you do on a per minute basis. Not being a damage Wh___, but the faster you kill a monster/mob the faster you gain exp.
