I've read and studied quite a few college essays now, and I have several ideas for a college essay topic. I've decided to use metaphors as an overall theme for the essay. However, some of the topics may be rather.. risky. Right now I'm planning on writing about nearly-unachievable dreams. I plan on writing a very unique essay (with of course, some toughie vocab~), but I'm not 100% positive about the effect of this essay's topic; writing metaphorical essays are rather risky after all; depending on the reader, the essay may be widely accepted or widely discouraged or dismissed as a hunk of non-progressive persuasion with minimal applauding attributes aside from vocabulary and grammar. So, what's basil's opinion on that topic? I know basil isn't the best place to ask, but it's the place that will get me the fastest answers...without forcing me to pay, and without thousands of readers who could easily take my topic and turn it into something godly, and submit it as their own college essays.

Oh God college essays. I'm glad I'm done with that crap. I had to write 5 different essays for the same school! All I can say is good luck I don't even want to think back to that.

Sounds interesting. I like the topic, about unachievable dreams. Instead of settling for the contrived topics of friendship, who you look up to, blah blah, you have something truly unique. What you need to do is to keep the readers engaged in your essay. That means don't use too many "big words". Showing off your vocab is certainly a good thing, however, overdoing it will put off the graders. Speak to them as if they were your friends, but don't be too informal. They want to read and learn about you most importantly, focus on putting your personality onto paper, so to speak. " and without thousands of readers who could easily take my topic and turn it into something godly , and submit it as their own college essays. " I LOL'ed at that part.

Dont think, just write about your self. For a rough draft, I wrote an essay about Halo.

Write about how an unachievable dream is like a bouncing ball. Every time you drop it, it'll bounce back up a little less high each time. So the dream will be a little less unachievable each time. I could have made that sound a lot smarter but my head hurts, hopefully you get the gist of it.

Sounds like it could be a good topic. You could make it motivational/philosophical which at the least, I would enjoy. Then again, im just a kid, so my advice probably isnt too good.

You can't write about cliche things like I work hard and i am this and that captain of the whatever. oh i am leader of whatever. you have to bring up something that is unusual. like its an essay to have the reader get to know you. dont just throw out your credentials. edit: talk about your hobbies. what do you like to do? why do you enjoy? what makes you, you? things like that. of course you can talk about oh your like the captain of the soccer team or something like that, but why? what makes you do it? hope this helped.

|
HansJuneby : Talk about MapleStory obviously
It was the middle of 6th grade, I couldn't take my eyes off my cousin's screen. I was mesmerized by the myriad of colorful characters, and the child-reminiscent lego-blocks of the town known as "Ludibrium". That was my first encounter with the vastly popular MMORPG known as MapleStory. Then go on to talk about how MapleStory changed your life, blah blah blah, what you've learned from it, how it changed you into a better person, all the crap. I can see a college essay on MS working out. |

sounds good, and it even sounds like you got all your topics down. i think if your confident that you can write it well that I'm sure that it will be awesome, i've never written a metaphorical essay before but the topic and that type of essay sound like a superb combination! good luck!
