| Runescape wins in terms of the fixed economy and ways to make money. No insane fluctuations. No way to change prices. No way to scam people. Everything else though....I'd have to say maple wins. |

Prices are just right the way they are. |
I agree with the part "challenging", but not with "prices are right the way they are". One day a chaos is worth 100m, then the other 60m, then 80 then back to 60 it's just annoying |

| Maple has terrible quests. Junk rewards, junk xp. Runescape has much better quests with a rich storyline. Maple customer service is pretty much non-existent. Runescape is "3D" and maple is 2D. The preference is yours. Runescape has a variety of skills that you can train in case you get bored. Maple has a large number of jobs that each have their own purpose. Maple does not have a very stable economy at times. Runescape is just...lol grand exchange. Maple has tons of hackers compared to runescape. Meso exploit/cash shop exploit/chaos duping. Some people try to crash the market in runescape but I think thats bannable. Runescape is a bore if you don't pay. I think membership is 6$ a month. Maple is pretty addicting for whatever reason. People will pay obscene amounts of money for nx to pay for clothes/mts. Some people will pay nothing and have the same amount of fun. Maple is a successful game despite all the people complaining. Runescape is browser based, so you can play it where ever. You have to download MS. I would play maple over runescape anyday. |

|
gimliofdurin : sounds like you are a RS fan boy....never played RS in my life so I wouldn't know.
Am I a RS fanboy? Seeing that I've played both games, I can compare them quite fairly. Maplestory: Pros: -Not a click and kill type of game X -Newb-friendly (Ok, by looking at other people's arguments, I suppose MS is not all that newb-friendly) -If you die, you only lose xp -Your "bank" is practically your whole inventory (plenty of space) -Flashy skills and the such -Communication-friendly (Easy to chat with people) -Anime-like look may appeal to people Cons: -Hard to level in the later levels (120+) - Usually will have to spend NX to get anywhere good in MS -Hackers, scammers, packet editors, you name it -Not newb-friendly Runescape: Pros: -Variety of skills to train from, not just combat -PvP -You cannot just "buy" your way through most of Runescape -You cannot gain an advantage over others just by paying more money per month -Much better quests than Maplestory (they have a decent storyline, and it's not just all fighting - there are puzzles) -Better customer service Cons: -Practically everything in runescape, besides perhaps around 10% of its content, is p2p. -If you die, you lose everything in your inventory and equipment slots except for the 3 most valuable items (unless you have a skull above you) -Click and kill -Bad graphics, but that's in the eye of the beholder, since Jagex gave RS a huge graphical update -Trade is limited - you cannot give away things that are worth a lot of GP, they will have to be traded for GP, or items worth that item -Only 28 slots of inventory Well, I've made my comparison. |

| Legendary777 I don't consider maple very "newb" friendly. The communities pretty bad and it's hard to merch in some worlds. They could explain things a little better because everything can be a bit overwhelming at times. Just my two cents. Another con of runescape (or pro) is that everyone is about the same. There's no scrolls so a rich person cannot be a lot more godly than a poor person. Sure, certain armors provide a much better boost, but it is heavily stat based. I also found it easier to make money in runescape thanks to the grand exchange and the fact that I actually looted monster drops (rarely do in maple unless it's worth something) |

| I think age plays a major factor here. Think about it like this: Runescape = SNES / Nintendo 64 Maplestory = Playstation / Xbox I see a lot of new, younger gamers who say how lame N64 is, and how the games have such bad graphics, and how could anyone choose that over an xbox or ps3, etc. Whereas the older gamers, aka 1980's and early 90's, love the Nintendo 64, and love the nostalgia it brings. It is because they "Grew up" with the Nintendo and SNES, and it "Grew on them." They were used to the "old, crappy graphics" and in some cases, still prefer playing Star Fox or Zelda over Halo and Modern Warfare 2. I grew up with RuneScape. It was my first MMO I ever played, and I started playing it when I was just 10 years old. Even now at 18, I still love playing it. Sure it has had a lot of "devastating" changes to the game such as the Grand Exchange and Trade Limitations, but that hardly changes the way I feel about the game as a whole. A lot of other MMO players started off with World of Warcraft or MapleStory and take a look at RuneScape, and just think, "Wow, what horrible graphics, how could anyone play this trash?" And quit right there. Whereas when I play RuneScape I think, "Wow Jagex really did a great job with these graphics, they look outstanding!" because in my mind they do, because in my mind I have always liked RuneScape, and in my mind RuneScape is like my "Home MMO." I really don't think any of that made sense, but I hope it did. |

Like Maple Island, 1st job advancement, etc - you get free weapons that you can use. Also, when you reach a certain min. lvl for a pq, you get the notice for it. There's a bunch of other newb-friendly things in Maple, but I can't think of any right now. Usually, most newbs won't merch - they will try to train, hit monsters, try different things, etc. Although, I'll admit, it can get hard to obtain money in MS, while it is rather easy in Runescape. You can simply fish and cook for your food to use in combat, as well as sell it for GP. |
