Hey i wonder about skill books

Well i haven't been trying buying skill books for any char's so i got no clue on how they are working, but i wonder if i buy the skill books for my Dual Blader will it improve my Attack for a little or alot? i mean is it really worth it buying them in the first place.?

For around half the skills, it will increase your damage by quite a bit. (Flying Assaulter, etc)
