How important is DirectX?

What does DirectX contribute to my Maple experience? Couldn't think of a better way to word it. >.< Thanks in advance! EDIT: I have DirectX 9.0

DirectX is the mechanism by which MapleStory renders images, plays MP3 files and captures device input.

DirectX is the base API in which most developers well, develop games. Certain Maplestory calls to functions are based on DirectX API, so yeah, you pretty much need it. It's important because there might be certain bugs in Maplestory hooks that updating DirectX may fix.

Actually, your computer would have crappy graphics and no 3D if you didn't have DirectX or OpenGL. Therefore, very important.

If you didn't have DirectX, Windows wouldn't work properly, therefore you are supposed to have this, and you need to have it. It's used to handle all types of media like games, video, to just simply seeing many different strands of colors at once. It's not just the plug-ins like Java and Shockwave, to programming languages like C++ that make stuff work; in order to see so much you need DirectX.

Maple runs on DirectX... Without DirectX, you can't play Maple.
