help me achieve my 5 year long dream.

5 years ago, i discovered that i had a pretty natural talent for drawing things in the right proportion when i was drawing a gyarados. However, i didn't pay much attention to that talent; i just drew random anime chibi things here and there whenever i felt like it. however, this was when i found out about deviant art as well, and looked around. I saw many people draw pretty amazing things. I decided to make it my dream to someday draw and color a portrait of a real life person, and make my drawing look almost like a photograph. 2 years ago i got pretty good, so i just looked through internet guides and taught myself proportions. 5 months ago, i tried to color via digital for the first time, ended up terrible, tried a few more times, continued to be terrible, so i quitted. 2 months ago, i asked professional artists on deviantart how they were able to color digitally with such realistic shadow/lightings, and they just replied with 'get a tablet.' i had no idea what a tablet was, and after a few more questions to artists i decided to buy one. 3 weeks ago, my tablet arrived from the mail, and i started to draw avidly. I haven't been able to put down my pen since. It's become an addiction for me to draw things. 4 or 5 days ago, I asked people for advice on how to draw clothing folds, and in the next 3 days, i drew something that i never thought i'd be able to draw: something that looked semi-realistic. However, the face was a total mess. That screen can be found under my basil screen submissions. I asked for critique, and two wonderful advice-givers sparked up my motivation to study a face's lighting and shadow intensively. So, today, I decided to draw Yuri from SNSD, while paying extreme attention to the face. after a 4 hour trial-and-error process, i finally produced something that nearly allowed me to achieve my dream for drawing a face that looked real. However, for a full hour and a half, i have been presented with a huge problem. Aside from the fact that the color tone of the face is a bit too pale in some places, i cannot seem to get the eye on the right side of the picture to be proportionally accurate. I'm moving it around, transforming it, making a bit smaller, bigger, everything i do i can't seem to get it right. I usually don't ask for people to help me mid-drawing, but rather than being overly persistent to not get any help, i decided to ask basil and several friends Could you help me point out where or how (or even edit it yourself) the right side's eye (to avoid perspective confusion) to make it seem 'right?' http://i32.tinypic.com/2wm1lig.jpg this is what i have so far. A friend near me told me to draw an eyepatch over her (lol) but i that wouldn't really help at all. But i do agree, if the right side's eye is covered, it looks almost complete.

Is it me, or is the nose crooked? Could be the reason why the right eye looks like it's out of proportion.

I think the face is bit too long and round...? Also, the nose is a bit off to the left. :o

The nose it off. I think that's why the left eye looks a bit weird.

When I covered the nose, the eyes looked normal to me. So maybe it's not the eyes, but her nose that's off. :D Edit: Triple ninja'd.

You got a Owen Wilson nose going on, and the area between the nose and the lips seems too long. Like the others have said, her face just seems long.

well the shading and colouring is exceptional. something about her face though, make me want to shoot it with a laser. just my two cents EDIT: face might just be too round. it looks like one of those Fendippitous eggmen

II like everything, but everyone here is right, the nose and face are a bit off. Try making the face a little less round and maybe angling the nose a bit more. I sure hope its fixable!

Well the colors and shading are decent, but you have to practice placement and perhaps study the anatomical features of the human body. Other than that it's pretty good besides minor flaws.

I don't paint a lot. I only painted when I needed to during school. But I'm good at art and have had experience with it. The only advice I can think of is to not worry about proportion right now. Focus all on shadow/lighting etc. After you get good at it, then start practicing proportion. I may be wrong, but I'm giving you this advice because I'm guessing you didn't master either yet, and you're trying to work on both lightning/shadow and proportion at once. This can make things much more difficult. Give yourself less stress by throwing away thoughts on proportion first. Just paint. Keep painting till you feel yourself being able to paint shadow/lighting correctly. After that, you can then start working on proportion. I advised shadow/lighting first because when painting realistically, I personally think shadow/lightning is one of the most important and hardest aspect. This advice is for you painting in general. I don't want to just give advice for this one painting. I don't think this will be your final painting. Also, remember to enjoy yourself when you paint. Don't force yourself to paint when you don't have the mood. Hope this helps. Edit: Btw, forgot to compliment the painting of the hair. It looks really realistic. Of course you have to aim to make it look even better than it does ;)
