| Good evening, Basilmarket. I'm sure many of you are aware of the negative stereotypes that plague our society today. I've formed many through my own independent observations, but others' viewpoints from Maple and Basil have helped carve many more. A few nights ago, I had an idea; I was going to put those stereotypes and notions to the test. The Guidelines of the Experiment The rules of this experiment were rather simple. I would wander through towns in Victoria island, and ask any Mapler below level 50 if I could have 5,000 mesos. If they willingly gave it, I'd trade them again and give them double the amount of mesos they gave me, as well as a scroll of their weapon type (or a set of throwing stars, if they're a sin). To throw off any notions that I wasn't an ordinary Mapler, I would disguise my grammar and spelling, wear common equips, and trade them without talking to them first (chances are, people wouldn't give money to a begging 140 Bishop). If they asked if I had anything to give them, I would tell them I have nothing. No guilt-tripping (I.E., I got hacked, I got scammed, etc.) was involved, as it would skew the experiment. These reactions can be described as completely unbiased. Also, these people were encountered entirely at random; I have never to spoken to them at any point before in my travels. Now, time for the results. I'll provide links to each screenshot, as well as any notes on something I missed in the screenshot. The Results - First subject . This test started out on a rather rude, cold note. I sincerely hoped the rest of the test wouldn't turn out this way . - Second subject . We have our first winner! As a reward, I gave him 10k and a 60% pole arm for attack scroll. - Third subject . Woah. She readily gave me 5k, without asking any questions. She almost escaped , but I was able to give her the reward . - Fourth subject . Apparently, he was new to the game and didn't have any money. I asked him if he would have helped me out if he could, and he said yes. This is bending the rules a little, but I decided to give him a small reward reward anyway. - Fifth subject (Part 1) , (Part 2) A little inquisitive, but he was quite nice. Also, it seems he really liked the payoff , which put a smile on my face. - Sixth subject (Part 1) , (Part 2) I don't think any notes are needed for this one. xD - Seventh subject I think we've found the last assas- ... aww . His altruism was flawless up to that point. His attempted cover-up was also somewhat depressing. I'm going to save the stars for someone else, but I'll still double what he was going to give me. - Eighth subject] Woah, talk about raising the stakes a little bit. I gave her about half a minute after she put in that amount, just to make sure it wasn't a typo. I also gave her some time after telling her I can't fame, just in case she wanted to cancel the trade. She didn't (also, look closely at the meso box in case you can't see my 100k). - Ninth and final subject I'm glad to see this exp |
