| innately good or innately bad? Discuss. IMO, I think they're innately bad because that's how laws were made in the first place. I don't know, maybe I'm just very cynical. :/ |

| I don't think we're bad, just selfish. Self preservation is human nature and we do things selfishly without knowing it, even if they're tiny things. |

| Well, that depends on your definition of "good" and "bad," which is dependent on humans themselves. From my definitions, humans are innately bad. I consider "good" to be truthful and honest, but nowadays many people cover up their true personalities under social norms and the like. |

| I think good and bad are human constructs and are basically meaningless. Having said this, I will say I think in the general constructs of morality we have made as a society, we are mostly inclined to do good, whether it be for broader ideals of good such as benefiting society or the environment or narrower ideals. I think the bad things we do are justified, at least to individuals, as being 'good' in their context (ie: someone stealing bread to feed their family) Of course there are always exceptions, and not everything should be justified as through the eyes of a society as a whole, but that's why I think classifying humans as 'bad' or 'good' is sort of ridiculous in the first place. |

Deciduos : So, some are good and some are bad?
Somewhat. Obviously we're too different to be confined to either good or bad, as well as those two being subjective, human made concepts. When you get down to it, I guess I'd say the human race is inherently human, and that comes with many things. -shrug- |

Hawktoe : Isn't culture a part of humanity? |

| Ztarfish : Nicely stated. Deciduous : (Sorry for spelling your name wrong before D: ) Lol, humans are inherently human. But I see where you're coming from. Quaint : I think animals are a totally different topic... Omegathorion : Basically, they said that good/evil existed because there has to be a reason why society deems robbery, murder, etc. "bad" in the first place. And because society considers these acts as good or bad as a majority, the perception of the individual doesn't matter. |

Hawktoe : Isn't culture a part of humanity?
Yes, but comparing what humanity is and comparing culture are two different things. Humanity itself is us as a race. And honestly, to compare this would just get into a religious debate. But comparing our culture is a completely different thing. Especially since there are so many different cultures, but only one human race. And it's apparent to me this is true. Each generation, is getting increasingly worse. As one bad generation, teaches a new generation. Which then has all the bad from the previous, plus whatever they come up with on their own. I mean look at todays kids. The drugs today, compared to the drugs in the 70s, are much stronger, much more potent. And kid's are starting them at younger ages as well. |
