Gintama Samurai Champloo Gintama is really funny. ask anyone who has watched it. it's my #1 anime. it has tons of parodies/references of stuff you may know of. Such as: shounen jump (naruto, bleach, one piece, DBZ, etc), monster hunter, dragon quest, Nintendo, Sony, etc. although it is more of a comedy anime, Gintama has action too. Terrorist attacks, aliens vs samurai fights, shinsengami (police) vs terrorists, monster hunter/dragon quest parodies.

REC, Manga. Check OneManga for it. Romance seinen manga set in a workplace. Shinryaku! Ika Musume, Manga, Mangafox. An amusing comedy about a squid girl coming to invade Earth due to humans polluting the sea. Amusing. =) Those two are two that I like off the top of my head. Musume is definitely the better of the two. =) Other than that... hmm... Nagasarete Airantou (about a guy stranded on a island with only girls; they're all in their teens, and all the girls have never met any guys before aside from their fathers, who all disappeared fifteen years ago during an accident. Hilarity ensues, and so does romance.) The World God Only Knows (no summary provided, just read it. Definitely amusing. Set mostly outside of school but it does have its parts in school. Amongst the best of mangas.) Koi Neko (seinen romance. Mangafox. Same as The World God Only Knows.) There's more but that's the lot I can choose off the top of my head. Those are definitely some of the favourites that aren't always set in school.
