Alrighty well my current HP Labtop that i got last year or two is kinda dying on me. Its breaking apart and im interested in a gaming labtop. But there is SOOO much to choose from and i just want to make the right choice. Im wondering if you guys who are good with Tech Specs and stuff can help me out? Im 15 so im going more of a Labtop that will be a Desktop Replacement. - Price Range is at $1500 at MAX. I really rather spend lower but $1500 is the max im willing to spend or can for that matter. - Im gonna be doing heavy gaming, such as MW2, Left 4 Dead 2, and so on. You should get what i mean, im gonna be playing current next gen games for the PC. -This labtop is really gonna be ONLY for Gaming, As in, im going to be using it ONLY to play games and maybe web browsing. Im going to be using my current HP labtop for just casuel youtube watching and web browsing. So please keep that in mind. - Screen Size: I dont want anything below 15inch. 17inch is a big bonus and i would prefer that then anything. - Weight: I dont care, This labtop is NOT gonna be moving out of my room, nor will i be taking it to places out of my house. So what are my thoughts? 1) ASUS G73JH - Great Specs however the pricing is a bit over then what i want to spend so im kinda on the edge about that. Also i have heard MANY problems about this labtop. ~~~~While we are on ASUS, Can you guys suggest a Gaming Labtop in the ASUS Line? Not caring about pricing but performance. I believe the G73JH is the best right now? Can anyone help me choose a ASUS Gaming Labtop thats best in performance? ~~~ <----Please help me out in this if you can, picking a labtop. 2) The Dell Studio XPS 16. Nice Specs for a great price ($1200) I can also upgrade if i want. http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-studio-xps-16?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs ^----Its the one highlight as "Costumer Spotlight" in Orange. Thats all i have in mind. Its Either an ASUS Labtop or the Dell Studio XPS 16. PLEASE help me choose. I cant decide to save my help. Many Thanks!

Gaming-wise, yes. The Asus G73JH is better than the XPS 16. Plus, I believe their are better options than that Dell in that price range. Btw, why are you getting a laptop, when you not going to take advantage of the mobility aspect of it at all? I think you should consider in investing in building a desktop. Edit: What's wrong with your HP laptop anyways?

If you're not going to move your computer around, just get a desktop. This will be able to run most games on the market today on high settings, and it's only $800.

As i said, Im 15, Im really doing this on my own time and money. My parents dont even know and thats fine since i buy stuff i want with my own money. I would prefer a labtop for its simple nature. Just the compact size and easy to hook up. AND i want a labtop because i dont want to get a new Modem (i think im spelling it right?) I have one in my house but my dad uses it for his computer, which would end up me getting another one and them having to hook that up. So i would prefer a labtop instead where its all in one simple notebook instead of having to get a keyboard, a moniter, the desktop, etc etc I do want the ASUS G73 but its price is beating down on me. Anyone else have a good suggestion besides Desktop? P.S: My HP notebook is nothing special. Its just a normal HP notebook that can hardly run any current PC games without lagging like a crazy mofo. Which is why i want a seperate gaming labtop for that need. :]

What about this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152192 It's pretty much the same, just 4GB of RAM instead of 8. This one looks nice, too. It's just not your preferred screen size. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220700

Seriously, Basil is probably the site with the most downtime I've ever been in. o.o -trying to send this reply in the last 30 minutes. xD Oh ok. I don't see how your age and whether you buy it with your own money or now will affect your decision of wanting a desktop or laptop though. But yeah, a laptop is more compact and doesn't have a lot of wires that you need to worry about. It's basically all in one deal. I was only giving you an option that you may want to consider, as even with all peripherals for it, chances are you could get a desktop that will do better in games for you, as well as allow you to have an easier time upgrading in the future. Plus, you don't need a new modem for a desktop (well, you may need to run a new line to your wireless router or buy a wireless card). Anyways... [/quote] That was the same one I was going to mentioned... Btw, TS, the G73 on Newegg is $1550. Unless I'm reading it wrong, if you get it at XoticPC (you should look at the other options here too,), you can get it for $1501.76 (read about the Cash Discount on it. And it also has free-shipping in the US on it) plus 500GB more in HDD space (1TB). While you most likely not going to be using all of that 8GB or that 500GB, for $100 over the GX740, it's very worth it, IMO.

Asus G73jh. The Best Buy version comes with an Intel i7-720QM Processor, 6GB DDR3 RAM, and the ATI Mobility Radeon 5870. That's a killer card right there and will play Crysis and games like that on max settings with 30+ fps. It also has a great 1080p 17.3" screen It costs $1199 and is truely the best laptop for the price. *Btw, i cant post a link because theres a keyphrase in there that Basil restricts. But go on Bestbuy.com > computers > laptops >gaming laptops and it's like the 3rd or 4th one down

http://www.shrunkin.com/40961/ Don't forget tax. xD And it's not even available for pickup in my area (no shipping options)... It's not 1080p, btw. My only real complaint on it (aside from the pickup option) is that it doesn't give the 2 year Asus warranty with the 1 year accidental coverage. Just that 1 year BB warranty.

However what i dont like is that it has the same specs as this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220700 Only the ASUS one is $200 less with a smaller screen and a different Graphic Card. Ok thanks to everyone for suggesting Labtops, Here is my line up on the ones i want right now if anything 1) ASUS G73JH - $1500 - Using the Best Buy Locator theres not ONE in any of the Best Buy near me....So i have to order online for $1500 which is stupid 2) MSI GX740 - $1400 - Great Specs, Almost the same as the ASUS only $100 less. However no 1080p. 3) ASUS G51JH - $1200 - Nice Specs, However, Smaller 15' inch screen with a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M instead of a ATI 5870. Which one should I Get? Like i said...Im not to fasinated with spending $1500 since im very tight on money. HOWEVER, I CAN get the G73JH for $1340 on eBay, Brand New, From a dealer. ~~Now what im trying to find out is can anyone find a Gaming Labtop that has the specs of the ASUS G73 for a CHEAPER price? |

I'd get the 3rd option because I prefer NVIDIA and the screen size. I have a 17" gaming laptop that's 3 years old, and the weight is not fun to move around. Not much of a "gaming laptop" anymore since it's so underpowered for today's games, but it's still great for MMOs. I do keep it in one spot like you will do, but there's always those times when you'll go to a friend's or just wanna take it with you somewhere. EDIT: Just compared the weight of the 15" ASUS and the 17" MSi. They're both 7 lbs. o.o If you're going to do really hardcore gaming, I'd get the MSi for the 5870. At your last question, I can't really find anything that compares to the 1st option like the 2nd.

Help? :[ Or if someone wants to suggest another one with nice specs, it would be nice. Again, Weight really isnt a problem or a thought, The most i will be moving this thing is from my room to the living room, and its no biggy. ALSO!: Is This One http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=135&cat2_no=271&prod_no=2073 Better then the GX740? |

I'd also go for a desktop instead because you already have 1 laptop. kinda sucks that you choose laptop over desktop for gaming as your opponents will be calling you lagger Labtop: A common mis-spelling for laptop, generally made by young people.

Lols sorry for the spelling, its the internet, i really dont care at this point :P But as for the Desktop vs Labtop thing. Like i Said, I would have to order a Desktop. Now, I found gaming Desktop that run about $1300. Which include the Desktop, Keyboard, and Mouse. The Specs for the Desktop are generaly around the same as the Labtops i want which would run me about $1400. Now what am i missing for the Desktop? A monitor. If i get a desktop, i want atleast a 20" HD one since it will be replacing my Labtop which is currently a desktop to me. And a 20"HD monitor will run me about $160. Now if i wanted a desktop, i would go for these two: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6077552&sku=I455-97000 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5532654&sku=A179-2264 Together, WITH shipping AND warrenty for one year would run me about $1,564.44 Which is $100 more then buying the Labtop i want. So all in honestly, im paying about $100-$200 less for everything the desktop has but all in one machine. I dont know, im thinking about a desktop but theres so much wires to hook up and such. ALSO, Do i need to get a seperate modem? If i get a desktop.

How you feel about building it yourself? You could build something good in that price range of yours, while having all the necessary essentials (edit: like this . That was just picked quickly and not taking in consideration of combos and such, but yeah. All you need in that build now is a $200-ish mouse and keyboard. xD ). And if you are having a hard time fitting in your budget, you could always skimmed down on the processor. Unless you are doing something CPU intensive (which the most intensive thing you are doing is gaming), the i5 dual/quad line will be good for you (this goes with the laptop as well). Like this one and this monitor . The one that Shiro will be good as well. As for what you need and the wires, you will need: the Desktop (a power plug), a Monitor (a power plug and a VGA/DVI cable that plugged into the back of the Desktop), a mouse/keyboard (2 wires that goes into the back of the Desktop. if you buy it pre-build, it will have it already), Speakers (a power cord and a 3.5mm jack that goes to the back of the Desktop). That's basically it for the most part. And a surge protector and Chair/Desk if you don't have one already. The wires can be a bit messy, but spending an hour or two of your time to ziptie the cable and reroute it will fix that (a lot people don't even do that). And that's it. You already have a broadband modem to connect on the internet if that's what you are worry about. As well as a wireless router, which you are currently connected to wirelessly on the laptop you are on. Basically, like I said before, you would need to route a Ethernet cord from the router to your room, if you don't have one setup already. You could also buy a PCI wireless network card (randomly picked that), install it on an available PCI slot, install the drivers, and connect to it like you would with your laptop. ________ Between the two laptops choices you have now, I would still go with the G73, as you get 4GB more of RAM, 500GB more of HDD space, a matching Targus backpack, a Razor Gaming Mouse, and as well as the higher resolution you want. All for $87.26 more (assuming that you are comparing it at XoticPC). It seem the MSI has the better battery life, but since you are just keeping it in one spot, you going to be plugging it into the wall anyways.
