Well yeah, I'm wondering if i can get into davis with these grades and such. I have an overall 3.6 gpa. freshman year my main classes were geometry and bio.sophomore year alg2 and chem, this year was pre cal and physics, as well as ap english, next year im gonna be taking ap calculus, ap physics, and ap lit. I've only been in one club, which is CSF, next year would make it my third year in it. And I play tennis, this year i was #3 ranked in varsity, next year i'll be #1. And my SAT score was 1650. I've done around 9 hours of community service. Most of my close friends were seniors and they have already graduated, most are in davis and only one is in berkeley. They all had over 4.0 gpas so they had elc and got into davis just fine. I'm worried because i failed to try hard in school and procrastinated until the last moment, where they had good study habits. I'm as smart as them intellectually but playing certain games online effed me over on my grades. *cough* I'm not sure that i can get into davis, so i just wanted to ask a majority of people. Please include what can help me better my chances of getting into davis. Thanks guys, please leave honest and sincere opinions. I gotta get some sleep now :p i have a party thing i gotta go to tmrw morning :p

I think you'll have a chance getting into UC Davis. But 9 hours of community service? I do around 100 hours of community service every year lol (except freshman year). You don't have to take that many AP classes in your senior since it won't matter that much (UCLA and UCBerkeley look at your senior year though). Try joining more clubs, even though you got a sport to cover for you, at least be involved in school activities and community. SAT score is okay. Colleges would love to see long term voluntary service, such as helping in the hospital for a month. Honestly, I think you can get into UCDavis.

The UCs are getting a lot tougher because of budget cuts. My friend got waitlisted with a 3.7 unweighted, and ultimately got denied. This was the first year that UCs started waitlisting people by the way. My other friend got rejected with a 3.6 unweighted. I personally got into Davis (through ELC) and rejected the admission offer so that they could make room for the waitlisted people, but a lot of those people still weren't able to get in =/. Edit: my friend that got waitlisted had a 1730.

This year they had a 59% acceptance rate (after their waiting list people got in) Try joining a community service club (i'm in key club), you can count the meetings as community service and gain a hella lot.

3.6 is lower than their average of over 3.9. The SAT and extracurriculars are also under average from what I have experienced. Always worth a try, especially with a good personal statement, but try CSU or Riverside and Merced as backups. Edit: I finished HS with a 3.75, 1920 SAT 1, 690 on SAT 2 Math 2, 630 on SAT 2 Spanish with listening. Officer positions in 3 clubs with over 20 hrs./week of extracurriculars plus foreign volunteer aid work. Got rejected to UCI and UCSB, both of which are ranked closely to Davis and have similar admissions statistics. I didn't apply to Davis, but I hope that helped.

The major you apply as also is a huge factor. If you're planning on sciences, engineering, or pre-medical of any sorts, you should look elsewhere. If not, you do have a chance. Work on grades and bringing up your SAT scores. PM me if you have any other questions. (I'm a sophomore at a UC.)

Tough call. Worst comes to worst go to a community college and transfer. That's what I did and I'm going to UCD in the fall.
