Hello Basil. I seem to have an internet issue with Maplestory on my laptop. Although I have a few computer savvy friends on the issue, I would like some ideas from the general community about what could be wrong. First I'll explain the situation. This started to happen around 2 weeks ago. Before then, there was no problem with playing Maplestory on this Presario c700 laptop. I ran Maplestory on Windows Vista Home Premium and although it did warn me of compatibility issues, I've been playing Maplestory on this laptop for over a year now with no problem like this. This is the problem: Almost always, when I'm on Maplestory it dcs me from Maplestory and shuts off my internet-access from this computer. Although it says that the wireless card is on, when I open the wireless connection window it says that it didn't find any signal. That is impossible because I'm surrounded with internet signals that I KNOW are present. This problem could only be temporarily treated by restarting or hibernating and turning it back on. The most peculiar thing is that it always ALWAYS happens when I'm on a ship ride or some sort of transportation in Maplestory (e.g. train from nlc, ship to/from orbis, plane to/from CBD, etc). Sometimes it happens when I'm just strolling through a town or standing somewhere chatting. A few dcs also occurred while I was in the FM on channel one. From logical deduction, I first came to the conclusion that it could be a software problem. Since it only occurs while playing Maplestory, it makes me suspicious of the wireless and/or operating system. If it was a hardware problem, I'd expect that unless the broken/faulty piece is replaced, it will continue to occur regardless of what I'm doing. This isn't the case since it only occurs while playing Maplestory. I was also suspicious that it could be a overheating problem since this computer is really warm when I'm playing Maplestory. Here's some solutions that I've tried and found unsuccessful. With the help of a friend, I downloaded and reinstalled the wireless software, a 802.11 broadcom. At first, it started to work at his house, then when I got home to play, it just kept dcing, with higher frequency. Today, he replaced my operating system with Windows XP Media edition. I thought that did the trick since I was on/afk for over 5 hours without the problem. Then just as I got on the plane to CBD, I dcd. This dc had an error (insert random number here) and I could hear the music while the popup came up. When I logged on to train at gallos for 15min I dcd again with the same problem. This time, it was simply a "firewall, visit site for ongoing scs". I also tried to cool the computer with ice, which failed... So now I'm just clueless. Any computer wizard people out there willing to give me some suggestions? Any relevant help is appreciated. Oh and one more thing, i took apart the laptop an hour ago and found some funny looking purple cylinders apparently melted off. But I'm almost positive that it occu

I read and saw Windows Vista so THERES YOUR PROBLEM! Although I didn't read it all the odds are some settings might have gotten hanged on your computer or with your wireless router.

Well, I'm undecided whether this is a Hardware/Software problem. The getting on board transportation systems seem peculiar. Have you tried this on another laptop/computer? The it might just be that you simply need to reinstall Maplestory. But now, is your only problem the fact that you d/c on transportation systems? Or is Maplestory still shutting down your wireless internet?

@ Glow: I have Windows XP now. It still doesn't work. @ Ditchme: I have reinstalled Maplestory twice. It still does not work. The dc almost always occurs on the transport systems. I don't know if this is due to a unique signal sent from the server to my computer while in this "special" virtual room denoted by moving ships or something else. When I d/c, it shuts off my wireless capabilities. Before I dc, I notice that I lag a small bit on consecutive intervals from 3 to 7 times before I actually dc. Sometimes I try to close out of Maplestory fast as to prevent the wireless shutoff, but to no avail.
cdo24o : the purple cylinders did it
I doubt that. Not only that he said that he was positive the "Purple Cylinders" melted off quite a while ago there is still the fact that why does it only occur on Maplestory? From the information he provided of course. On top of that why does he d/c on Maplestory's transportation systems? Its hard to believe those "Purple Cylinders" were made solely for Maplestory's transportation systems.

I refuse to believe it is Vista's problem. You can try it on another laptop. I'm make sense of what's going on here but I'm having trouble. Well, if all else fails, log a useless ticket to Nexon.

The abnormally of the issue (only Maplestory, almost always on transportation systems) points to me either a software problem or an extremely unique hardware problem. It works on another laptop, installed with XP also. I tried to system restore back 2 weeks, but it seems like my computer lacks the "show restore points older than 5 days" key (*FACEPALM). I guess worst case scenario I stop playing Maplestory. This is what I get for being a computer ignorant dipwad. Whatever. Thanks for the feedback though. And I'll consider logging a ticket to Nexon as next year's April Fool's joke.

Could it be antivirus/firewall related?
Janci : Could it be antivirus/firewall related?
Thought of that. I scanned my entire computer 3 times, deleted all the cookies and even tried it with firewall/ antivirus turned off once. None brought any significant deviation.

Possible fixes (Go in order) 1) Run Maple as administrator, close all unnecessary processes running in the background, change to lowest resolution settings as possible (though that probably won't make a difference). 2) Make sure Maple isn't setting off your firewall (set it as an exception) 3) Redownload and completely uninstall and reinstall maple (uninstalling from programs and features does not completely uninstall it) 4) Reinstall and update wireless card drivers 5) Reformat
