If you're one of those people who just log on to talk, disregard this. You know, when we have more content to explore? A larger cash shop variety resulting in one of the best character customizations for an MMORPG? More equips to satisfy the majority of the consumers that play MapleStory? Patching a majority of hacks? (mainly vacs/cursing hacks/etc) Remember the bad old days? Where it seriously took no life just to reach level 70? Where everything was hard and annoying? When making 1 million mesos was a pain? When keeping up with pot money meant selling EVERYTHING you had besides your equips? Where we had hackers running rampant anyways? Where we had vac hackers running in EVERY SINGLE map we trained on during ALL times of the day? Remember when we hated Nexon and loved Wizet just to find out Wizet is a part of Nexon? (owait) I don't see what you guys found so fun about the good old days. We were limited to one continent with 4 cities, 6 cities if you started with Orbis and El-Nath. I really don't recall what was so fun about it. Lets recap: When Perion was the "FM" This was when MapleStory didn't have game guard. Hacks were patched by patches naturally and almost never caught. People run rampant with vac hacks, speed hacks, and what not. Hell, even I had fun running across Henesys at light speed. Please people, you remember the vacs. There was always someone in a popular training spot hacking sitting there, sapping your experience away. Training maps were scarce as it was, and we had a hacker infestation. That was some good old times right? This basically continued on to the release of Ludi. Gameguard came out pretty soon after, but didn't really effect anybody. 2006 hackers in Florina when it was a hotspot When Ludibrium came out So, the vaccing continues with all these fancy names that relate to duplication... You guys know where I'm getting at right? I'd enter a master chronos map and guess where all the monsters are? In a corner with a warrior slash blasting away. Great there goes my training spot. Alright, I was level 4x at the time anyways, I had Ludi PQ. Oh looks who decides to be cool and sucks the golems on to the platform killing everyone in the party? Another hacker. I'm sure this happened to a lot of people on a daily basis. Having hackers in your party for your party quest, having hackers infest your map so training is next to impossible, then we had the cursing hacks and what not. Everyone keeps insulting each others mothers, talking about how big their reproduction organ is, or how many they've "done". Really, I could care less for people with an "e"go (haha get it?) but it was pretty annoying hearing the f word uncensored constantly. Now the banning of hackers was actually something joyus and worthy of celebration. I mean people made videos of hackers getting banned as seen here. Here's an example of the "vacs" and insults. Now vac hacking was getting pretty old at this point so guess what the hackers did? The infamous dEMI epide
CravesForYou : Hehe good one Aaron. I miss PG hek<3 But yeah. I miss the good days of glitched OPQ, LPQ, questing, etc If I could play Maple from the beginning and not getting hacked I'd still be playing today.
... /thread invalid for whatever your name is.
Hutson : I agree with you to a large extent. However, I also feel the community has shifted dramatically. Back with the old cursor (which was so much prettier than the stupid hand, for the record), everybody was in the same boat... There weren't some people who were uber-funded and capable of doing fifteen times your damage because you weren't. Not everybody was so intensely focused on leveling and damage and bossing. Killing Zakum when it first came out was a huge accomplishment, and I was in awe of people who were able to progress beyond level 50 in the game. There's more to the old-times and new-times than hacking. I agree that hacking is not nearly as bad as it used to be, though in recent times I've found it flaring up again, to the point that I saw someone vaccing cold eyes and slash-blasting in a corner... But there was so much that was good about the old days of Maplestory, too. I think they were friendlier times. A smaller community led to less competition... That being said, I do approve of all the advances. New content is the only thing that keeps the game interesting. New items, classes, quests, party quests... It's all good and fun and does add to it. It's also not like Nexon took away everything we used to have. It's still there. People just tend to ignore it because of the vast world they have to experience. Nobody wants to spend 5 levels doing KPQ when they can easily get the same experience faster elsewhere. But I digress. On the whole, I agree - Newer is generally better. But I think you would be remiss to say that back years ago, everything was miserable because of hacking. I really did enjoy the time I spent playing back then, but for different reasons than I do now. Sometimes I wish things were the way they used to be, but there's so much to enjoy now, hacking is less of an issue... I think it's good to embrace the new. Besides, there's no point complaining about the past - it will do no good. What's done is done, so enjoy what we have, aye?
Thanks for your input. I do agree the community was a bit kinder, but that's because Nexon didn't advertise as heavily. The smaller the community the more of a family feel there is usually, so yes I agree with you on that part, but I remember MapleStory more of frustrating rather then fun in my period of playing (which as you can see was for a while). Damaging hoaring played a major part in changing the community into a bigger hacking infestation as well. I knew some of my buddies who'd create mules to hack on just to score a few million just to get that scarab of theirs. The only reason why I'm emphazing on the hacking portion back then is because people who make the threads about the past talk about

Well, actually I created a thread not so long ago titled "Back to the past - What do you remember?" and it was about fun reminiscing of when you first started Maple. IMO it worked out to be quite a successful thread looking back at fun memories. We all remember the flood of unprotected hacks back in the day, but what gives you the right to judge what we enjoyed back then? With the bad memories come the good, and despite the limitations the Past Maple had offered, we still remember those good times when Maple held a purer image in our minds.

If we still had those "good old days". I would only have time for just my Hermit. So I don't miss those days at all. It's actually really good the game has been made idiot proof for beginners too. I see less people asking dumb questions.

its not about the content nor the experience gain nor the hacks if we mention about the good old days... we mean the experience (gameplay) and the way people interacted with eachother

I agree with everything you said whole-heartedly. That being said, I think when people speak of the good old days, they aren't really talking about the actual features. It was just back when they had the most fun because everything was still new. All the old crappy features get brought up (like an fm in perion where everyone sold ores is somehow better than a centralized market place x_x) because they remind them of that period which is fond in there mermories.

I personally liked the "good old days" better because it was more party oriented and there was a wide variety of classes being used. Back then, people would join make parties all the time and share maps. Also the quickest ways to level back then were PQ's. Since it was hard to level back then, people usually stuck with one character and there wasn't really the knowledge of what class was better than the other, allowing for more class diversity. I found this to be more fun than the single player oriented game that it is now where the only good "PQ" is CPQ and the other good "PQ's" can be played without a party. Also a lot of people now leech and have HS mules and there is a push to make the strongest or best class, which gets rid of the diversity. Plus people hate to share maps now because of the whole 2x, 4x, 8x etc exp. There are also mini dungeons which encourage people having their own maps instead of making parties. Even though there were hackers in the past, it seemed more enjoyable, at least to me.
