I have no idea what is the difference between wands and staffs, even after looking through both types on basil's items lists. They seem interchangeable, really. So someone please help me by telling me the difference, if there actually is any. And if it makes any difference I'm a lukless Evan Thanks

The difference is about the ele wands and staffs. luckless use ele wands and low luck strive for ele staffs.
Sunstar : The attack speed of a wand or a staff does NOT make a difference in the actual casting speed.... Though there is one F/P mage skill that is affected by it.. Explosion, correct me if I'm wrong?
does the difference in attack speed actually mean the difference it takes to physically attack a monster, like the slow of a 2h sword vs the fast of a 1h sword? and casting speed is not affected that way? (casting speed is what would really influence my choice between wand/staff, and also m. atk)

Wands are faster and allow you to equip a shield. The difference in damage is insignificant.

staffs are 2 handed (no shield) wands are 1 handed

wands are a tad faster. However it does not make a large difference. Its a tenth of a second difference. This is just a made up statistic but the point is that it is so small a mapler cannot notice it if not observed clearly.

Staves are not two handed weapons. Both wands and staves are one handed weapons. Also, there's not much of a difference except for the requirements.

Also when it comes to elementals, the satffs require luk, the wands dont.

staff =/= no shield. you can equip a staff and a shield at the same time. i think the only difference is, like people have said, the level difference and stat requirements for a staff vs. a wand. otherwise, they're exactly the same.

alright I get it now thanks guys, all makes sense I'll just choose wands/staffs based on stats and luk-requirement.

If you're a lukless evan, you'll be using maple weapons for the most part I would assume (at least to 70). At levels 35 and 43, you only have the choice of a staff, so the choice is easy. At level 64, you have the choice of a wisdom staff or shine wand. There are only three differences between them that are worth mentioning. The first is that the wisdom staff gives more HP, the second is that they look different, and the third is that the staff and its scrolls are typically a little more expensive, although not very much. So it pretty much comes down to which one you think looks better, and the weight of 50 HP in your decision. At level 70, you have the option of elemental wands instead. These will by far outdamage any maple weapon unless you happen to be using holy or dark magic, in which case you're better off with the maple weapon. At level 103, you'll have the option of an elemental staff. However, chances are you'll want to pass it up since elemental staffs require luk that you won't have. At 130, there's another type of elemental wand that will have even better stats. They're expensive, but if you can get one, they're typically end game weapons. Finally, at around 160, there's one more elemental staff. Chances are pretty good though that the luk requirement won't be worth it though. So for lukless weapons, mages typically start with a maple staff, then get a lama or nocturnal staff, then get a shine wand or wisdom staff (whichever one looks better, usually), then elemental wands from 70 onward. And about that weapon speed... As an evan, you can safely ignore it.
