Windows XP VS Windows 7

Hello basilers, Recently, I've been wondering if I should install windows 7 on my PC. Does it work fine with maple? What do you think is better- Windows 7 or Windows XP? What works faster (This question is general)? Do windows 7 users happen to have any problem playing MapleStory? If it matters, I have 2.75 GB of RAM and an ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics card. Thank you! Any additional information would help.

About the click thing, try to change the chatbox size.

And it uses a LOT less power. I've tested it on my friend's computer. Some 64bit quad-core processor (can't remember brand or anything else) ATI Radeon HD 3200 4GB RAM 320gb hard drive It came with vista. Ran pretty well. I would still say an XP would be faster. We then installed window 7. He never wanted to switch back again.

[/quote] So true, people who say Vista is the same as Windows 7 clearly dont know the difference between these two OS. Windows 7 is about 5-10% more efficient with datatransfer and shows better performance in high end games too. Other than that, watching high quality videos on 1920x1080 (Full HD) is also better on Windows 7. Vista shows bad performance on high CPU consuming threads. Im using the same pc for the same movie, and Vista just got blown away.

My laptop (when it was working ..) ran quite well with Maple. Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate (came with Home Premium) 2GB DDR2 RAM (after starting up, I had about 1.2GB left since the graphics card took up some system ram) ATI Radeom HD 3200 (same as the TS) AMD Athlon 64 1.6GHz processor (it's singlecore so sadly 3D games weren't running too well) But anywho, Maple ran perfectly fine. I had like 70 FPS most of the times, and sometimes 90-100.

Maple works fine on my windows 7 computer, the only thing i can't seem to fix is making it fit for full screen(my laptop is 15.4 '' i believe) so i play in window mode

[/quote] Funny you should say that, since even internally, Microsoft refers to Windows Vista as "Windows 6", and Windows 7 as Windows "6.1". Just because you think there is a huge difference, that doesnt make it so. As far as "data transfer", be more specific, as that in its simplest terms is untrue as well since data bandwidth should be nearly unaffected by OS. The given IOPs of any "drive" or "memory" will not change just because of a difference in OS. 1080P ( and all other ) playback is faster in 7 than both Vista and XP; added codec support as well a better GPU acceleration implementation will do that for you. What system doesnt "show bad performance on high CPU consuming threads"? Regardless of what OS you use, if all your resources are being used up you WILL experience slow downs.

MS, StarCraft, CS, etc. all runs fine.

They fix it later though, but the cause of the problem was the same as what Shiro stated. Edit: From what I also been hearing was that many nVidia user (not all or limited to) D/C at Zak.

Well whatever to all this. Vista is more likely to have problems with MS than 7. And 7 is more newer and popular, gets more updates, and is overall better in performance.

[/quote] I know friends that has Win 7 had problems in bossing, not all the time, but randomly happens. The best bet for you is XP, as 99.9% of Maple is all coded for XP. The D/C issues in some of the boss area are due to buggy code causing memory corruption, XP detects and handles memory corruption is totally different than Vista and Window 7. To sum it up, Nexon will probably only use XP as the target testing client, if it works on there they will release it. * Hi Hi Ky Ky *

Actually my maple doesn't work perfectly (The issues I have aren't related to the OS, but who knows). That's why I hope that Windows 7 will fix some of my problems. Moreover, Maple is not the only thing I do on this PC. I also make presentations, word files, work with photoshop, surf the internet, use some programs, edit videos and much more. But when it's related to gaming, I guess Maple is the only game I play. Thanks everyone, more opinions are welcome.
