Why does it seem that corporations in America are full of the most idiotic people? Wouldn't you figure if they have the most money in America, that they could hire better minds? BP is a great example. Being one of the juggernauts in the oil industry, and yet the best idea they can come up with is to shoot mud into the ocean? A child could have come up with that idea.

Well what I mean is, companies changing things. Like if McDonalds got rid of the golden arch, I'd hate it. Remeber when the commercials had Ronald and Grimace? Mcdonalds used to be so much cooler back in the day. Now it seems they are trying to be "cool". Another thing: Remaking classics. Just like the Halloween movie. And Star Wars+Indiana Jones.
ElitistMan : It's not that easy to fix the oil leak..
And the best idea is to pump stuff into it? Why not use your brains and actually come up with a better plan. Pump a sealant thats water resistant and doesnt dissolve in oil. We have all this chemistry knowledge, and yet people revert to pumping trash into the hole.
WTxOwn3d : Rofl, it wasn't their fault!
No one knows whose to blame. Some people are blaming Transocean, some people are blaming BP, some people are blaming the inspectors who BP bribed. It's pretty apparent BP did play a role in it though. B ritish P etroleum Oh, and they've got several solutions. The Top Hat, etc. It does seem pretty ridiculous though.

Just cuz there r genious scientists doesn't mean they can solve every problem. Also remember that the pipe is 5000 feet under water so its hard to pump a magic sealant into, so its good to use mud. Also im laughing at all the people going OLOLOL STUPID AMERIKUNS OLOLOLOL. BP= Britsh Petroleum. Its a British company, not am american one.

On the side note, when pressure is applied to a non Newtonian fluid, it acts like a solid, so as it is pumped from the surface into the water, it turns from liquid to solid.
Yes, a non-newtonian fluid does act as a solid when pressure is applied, but there is no pressure being applied to it in the pipe, so it would act as a liquid so it wouldnt seal the pipe.
The pressure of the sea water. The pipe would keep the pressure of the liquid at atmospheric until it leaves the pipe and enters the water.
