I'm selling my PSP on ebay for $130, or $180 auto-win. There's 4 hours left and 3 people are watching it. hopefully some guy will bid like $150 to make sure he wins

dude, best way to start bidding wars is to start the bid at a really really low price. like maybe even up to 50% what you would originally started. people are more likely to bid and get "attached" to that item, and thus a bid war starts. oh and buy it now prices tend not to be too good for bid wars.

There are a lot of things people can do to protect themselves on eBay, both when they're buying or selling. Sadly though, a lot of people don't use any common sense at all, and wonder why they had a bad experience. As for the TS, the "good old days" of eBay where people used it like a "normal" auction where they place a bid, then come back and raise the bid if they are outbid and so on all during the week are pretty much gone forever. Most of the real "action" takes place in the last few seconds of the auction, when all the automated "sniping" programs kick in. I used to get sucked into bidding wars myself, before I learned how to survive eBay. Now I use "eSnipe", an online service that places my highest bid 12 seconds before the auction ends to avoid goading anyone else into raising their bid too. And actually 12 seconds is a long time on eBay- most people cut it even closer, but I usually don't like to gamble that much. Not much anyone is going to be able to counter my bid in 12 seconds anyway. So- either you're likely to see lots of raising of the price at the very last second, or nobody will bid on it. (Or one guy will make off with it for the minimum bid price, which yes, sucks pretty bad, but that's eBay for you.) On the other hand, you sound like you probably know all that anyway...
