Will thorns finally determine corsairs as true damage king? Or will NL's still try to make excuses about how statistics are wrong and in "real" bossing situations, they are still better in dmg? [Dual Blade Skill: Thorns Effect 35% chance of performing a critical attack, Skill damage 250% / **DOES NOT AFFECT Classes with BASE crit (NL / BM)] Currently, the only thing Nl's have to argue with is that they have shadow shifter which increases their continuous dpm and the fact that corsairs ship breaks and rf is crappy. DESPITE current statistics that show regardless of those two factors SAIRS STILL out dpm'ing nl's -- NL's still try to hang on to the fact that with SE and apples and shadow shifter and "real life situations", they still do more damage then corsairs. However, after the balance patch with RF's new increased base damage + the arrival of thorns, I can only imagine the most ignorant nl's will be the only ones that still won't be able to face the reality of the new damage of: SE + Thorns + balance patch (longer ship duration, Rapid Fire dmg increased from 170% to 200%) overpowering them. By evaluating the cons of both classes, we can see where they stand. Current NL POWER: +SS-high evade + TT + APPLES 15min + SE So here we have a nl's main attack + the additional bonuses of high evade meaning it actually increases their dpm on bosses that stun or lock and generally any boss that "kb's" (adding a lil slight atk boost for them their as well). That on top of having longer apple time. Cons: A nl's damage is essentially capped very early 140-150ish once with maxed shifter and TT, no other skill will help improve dpm actively or passively. The only thing they can do is increase lvl and funding. Current Corsair: Cannon (highest dpm skill in the game) + BULLS EYE (+20%) + Octo Here we have cannon shining at its helm, added only by bullseye and supported by octo. Cons: Battle ship cooldown 90 seconds (depending on hp/lvl) + RF low damage + no high evade However, the arguing point where sairs ship breaks and the "crappy" damage of rf seems to be EXACTLY what the new updates are going to fix. Therefore in conclusion, even if Nl supporter's theories of "real life bossing situations" were true, and that they did indeed do a bit more damage, this significant boost in attack power to corsairs (200% rf, thorns + SE and bigger ship durability ) will IN NO DOUBT leave no room for argument in which class is the strongest in dpm. I cannot fathom how this significant damage boost will not be able to outdamage the "high-evade-dpm" of a nl, which is the only con that corsairs have over damage. -updated 5/19/10 - 2:50pm pst

I'm a Shad. I couldn't really care less truthfully. So they're the highest-dpm class? Whoop-de-doo. S'not like that's the most important thing. Also, you're talking theoretical. Which really doesn't matter much in the game. It will all boil down to player control for the most part. The 15minute-apple also saves money for runs, which is an important factor to consider as well. Some Nls will be wonderful, some Sairs will be wonderful.

[/quote] It does matter, for those of us who care (or those of us who are annoyed at which class is stronger than which arguments). The importance of this discussion is not whether or not we can actually find someone in game who can perform the output, but the potential of the two classes--so in the end, we can actually say, corsairs > NL.

Most party boss runs aren't speedruns, and are done mostly for profit. Whether a run takes 20 minutes or 22 minutes is really irrelevant, but longer onyx apples saves money, increasing profit. Bossing's all about connections anyway.

This whole Corsair/NL pride thing has to stop. (Sorry I cut a part of it, but I think this is the best part)

Corsairs will be better at bosses that don't as much damage, such as Zak or Pap. But as for HT and PB, and others, NL will still do better. No matter the hp increase on ship, and the 30% dmg increase on RF, and Thorns, NL will still be stronger in certain aspects. Even now, some Corsairs will out damage NLs at bosses such as Zak.

Battleship cooldown is 90 seconds. @ above: That isn't really a strong argument.

Neither is knowing that corsairs > nl in damage, which this thread is about. Not efficiency nor anything else.

I got tired of NLs sitting on top a long time ago even before Sairs came out. It really annoyed me when people only thought about NLs as just "high DPM with SE+Apples." But the lower we sink, the more people seem to look at what we have to offer otherwise. xD Aran outdo Sairs for damage output anyways in squads (and the mobbing ability of Sairs at bosses isn't even close to that of Arans either). xD Thorns would need to make up about 60k damage per second for a Sair to catch up to Arans . xD

And yes, i did forget to mention other specific details like who does more damage on mobs / etc. Also dual blader might also be able to compete with sairs (though its too soon to state anything)
