My younger brother is a 6th grader and I'm already a senior, so I forgot how to do his math. He is asking me for help. The problem is... "My brother is one third of my age. In five years, I will be twice as old as he will be. How old is my brother now?" Thanks

Let x = Person's future age Let y = Brother's future age x = 2y ... <1> Person's future age is 2x greater than his brother's 1/3[x - 5] = y - 5 ... <2> Brother's current age (y - 5) is equal to 1/3 of the person's current age. Plug <1> into <2> and solve for 'y'.
