There is a train uncontrollably driving down a railway. It's one of those railways where you have a lever to switch into two different directions. On one direction there is one person tied down. On the other direction there are five people tied down. The train is heading towards the direction with the five people tied down. You are innocently watching and you for some odd reason feel very brace and heroic. You could; a) Switch the direction of the railway by turning the lever so that only one person is killed and save the other five people, but you are left with the guilt that you ultimately killed someone. b) Keep it as it is so that the train kills the five people and you don't feel guilty since you were just an innocent bystander but could have easily saved five people. Feel free to add your own response.
jaypay : Wow, I didn't expect someone to put this much thought into this. :p
Eh, when you watch anime--you learn and gain a lot of stuff. If you watch Detective Conan, it'll surely change you in some way. Whether or not you'd be on the good side.

AnasF
Bokuwasonny : I'm Asian so I probably wouldn't notice so no guilt for me. -------------------------------- How bout this, coincidently I see a stack of papers with the backgrounds of all 6 people total. I see the 5 being all part of a underground company, with all of them having a life of crime. That ONE, the one most people would kill to save those 5--is actually a doctor who has saved millions and millions of lives and still in his prime, though he is not very popular. If that was the case, I wouldn't pull the switch and let it go towards the 5. But you know, the stack of papers with info on all of them is very unlikely to happen so this is why some people would actually walk away. -------------------------------------- For me, I'd use logic and reasoning to decide. Why is the one man on the other side, alone? And not with the other 5? If I assume the other 5 are normal citizens, that makes the other man.....different. Hypothetically, it's very reasonable that it could be a set up by one or more persons. Let's say this or these persons are not among the 5 normal citizens, anyone smart enough could set everything up so that the one man on the other side will definitely be killed--say, indirect intention. If you think about it, MOST people will definitely save the 5 and have that one man killed....right? I wouldn't know what decision to make anymore, in this case--I might walk away in sadness but I don't know. Will I save the 5 normal people or should I save the one man on the other side? It would ruin their plans but in the long run, might have it been worth it? If I kill that one man and save the other 5, I'd be playing right into the evildoer's hands....but the guilt I'd receive will be lessened. My thinking on this...is it worth it saving 5 people but in the conclusion more people will be killed later on? ......I don't know.
Then it comes down to the thought, "Is humanity 51% good or 51% evil?" If evil, you should try to kill the most people possible to reduces the chances of evil living, whilst if good, you should try to keep the 5 alive, because it'd be worth it if 3 of them are good and 2 of them are evil. However, as a human being, it is your job to assume that humanity is at least 51% good. F3

People don't seem to get the point of these scenarios. It's not to try to find loopholes, it's to see if you were faced with an ultimatum, which way would you go? I'd kill the 1 person. If they're all strangers then I'd at least try to save bigger numbers.

I would stop pretending that I'm in a scenario, consequently saving 6 imaginary lives.
