| It's not an opinion, a generalization or the words of an old-timer. First of all, I would like to say that I'm not just a bandwagon-hopping mainstream-hating idiot who raves about how music "these days" is crap. I firmly believe that most of music of today (most of it. I said Most of it.) lacks the character, soul, and passion of music of old. How many of you will look back at Justin Beiber, Miley Cyrus, or whatever the hell it is that tweens are listening to these days, 10-20 years from now and go, "now that's a good song."? Nobody in their right mind, that's who. Yet in the 60's, 70's, 80's and so on, bands like the Beattles, Pink Floyd, and what have you were popular among youth and adults alike, and today they continue to hold their appeal. The problem is that music is becoming less to do with talent and musical ability and more to do with appealing to the masses. I don't know what happened, but somewhere it went horribly wrong. |

 | Idk where you've been but there have always been bands and artists like that. Time has a way of weeding them out. Do you really think every popular song/artist from the 60's went on to be a legend? Do you really think people didn't complain that music from the 30s was better? |

| As much as I would like to agree with you, I cannot because in 20 years, Miley Cyrus is not going to be played like Pink Floyd. Bands like Alice in Chains(their new album and singer), and Cage the Elephant, and the next big rock band will be played. By the way, I would put the early 90's up there too. |

| Tell me about it. People listening to musicians because they look good. Whatever happened to liking music for what the people do not who they are. Then, there's the people who make music solely for money. Sure, you need to earn a living, but when you make music, you should make through the passion you have for it not for the money. |

| I hope you know that the reason nobody will look back at Miley Cyrus is because she will be forgotten, just like all the Cyruses of past decades were forgotten. |

| I agree. Music went downhill after the 21st century, because all it takes now is a microphone, some hastily made lyrics, and autotune to become an instant millionaire. Most music today had no passion; all they care is about is a big, fat paycheck (Disney/Justin Beiber). Music is about entertaining the world and sending a message at the same time; it's not about the money. Hip-Hop today is basically "HEY LETS MAIK TEH BAKGROUND MUSIK SO LOUD U CANT HEAR TEH RAPPIN. ALSO LETS MAKE THE RAPPIN REALLY FAST. OWAIT THE RAPPER CANT SING FOR JACK. NO PROBLEM WE HAVE AUTOTUNE". And to the people that disagree: compare Oasis's "Live Forever", "Don't Go Away", and "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" to Justin Beiber's songs. Notice how Oasis can pull off a love song without using a bunch of slang words to describe a woman in modern society. Can anyone in pop culture today do that? Hell *censored* no. EDIT: To anyone who thinks I'm one of the mainstream hating peoplez or whatever: Pop singers today have NO TALENT. NO TALENT NO TALENTTTTT But hey if something half-decent like Coldplay or Train manages to come on the radio, hell I'll listen to it. |

Let's face it, the 70's guys are dying off... the 80's guys are getting older, and the 90's are just starting to get old they won't be around for ever... Something new will come about... |

[/quote] I'm just shocked you used Oasis as an example and want to be taken seriously. Meanwhile, both Train and Coldplay get radio airplay. Some Pop singers from every generation have had no talent. Hell, look at the 80s and the synthesizer. |
