Hello Basil. My friend and I were arguing about if merchating was ruining MapleStory or not. As you can see, I am of course, a merchant. I believe that merchanting isn't ruining MapleStory as it is just a way for us to make mesos. But my friend says that merchants like me who stock up on everything then sell it overprice, forcing people to buy it are wrecking MapleStory. What's YOUR opinion and why?

rofl. Merchanting is win, all people who think otherwise (ex. awkwardwacko) are thinking of scamerchants that bot in the fm. Real merchants are there at their computers, and they have a heart.

Merchanting is simply a way to make money. When done correctly, there is nothing dishonest, underhanded, or unfair about it. I try my hand at it from time to time, though usually with only marginal profits. If you claim to hate merchants, you are simply angry that you don't have any money, and decide to attack out of jealousy.

Well that's how things are done? No matter what online game you play, as long as theirs online currency, along with items trade. They'll be merchants in general. Without them, there would be no economy. Sucks, but a necessary evil for the survival of the game. Sorry about difference of opinion.

The ones who disconnect other players and spam their "@@@@@@" garbage in places besides the FM ruin portions of the game for all players, obviously. The rest really don't bother me much. I try to stay out of the more popular free market rooms just to avoid supporting as many of the aforementioned "bad" merchants as possible, and while my method obviously isn't foolproof, it's better than running into FM 1 and supporting legions of obvious d/c hackers. That said, the personality of many merchants can be rather grating. This would not normally be a problem, but when one is forced to make deals with these people, then it becomes an issue rather quickly. Their desire for profit makes them offer as low as possible, often at the cost of insulting the intelligence of the seller. In one laughable instance, I left my shop open overnight with two maple shields inside. This was before the anniversary began. Several shops were seen with sold shields in the 44mil range, so I set mine at 40 and went to bed. I woke up the next morning to a sea of absurd offers. One man offered a six attack work glove for one shield. Another offered a single 9 attack work glove for both shields. One offered 25mil for one shield. Another asked if he could have them for free, and several said that my prices were "far too high." It is worth mentioning that both shields ended up selling several days later at 44mil. This is not an isolated incident, either. I have watched as merchants attempted to rip off their own friends and guildmates for profits that seemed small compared to the level of trust they sacrificed in exchange for the deal. Simply put, people who do these things are irritating, not trustworthy, and difficult to befriend as a result. And most of them happen to refer to themselves as merchants. But do I think they ruin the entire game? Of course not. They just ruin a portion of it.
