http://www.ted.com/talks/david_pogue_says_simplicity_sells.html This is a great (but slightly dated) TED talk about how companies like Apple are able to sell more expensive/less capable machines because they realized, quite early on, that simplicity and ergonomics are direly important when the pace of new/better technology continues at the rate that it has been

Then why do macs have a more confusing user interface than PCs?

Apple products are made with very high quality hardware parts. I've had IBM, HP, Toshiba, Apple, Dell, etc. So far, I've had the best experience with my iMac. @above No they don't. I've used Windows all my life and it took me less time to figure out how to use my Mac.
Nightwakka : Then why do macs have a more confusing user interface than PCs?
I figured out my mac within 2 days. I even got a bunch of keyboard commands down, and then totally missed them when I went back to PC

I had to write a five-page paper about that a year ago.
Nightwakka : Then why do macs have a more confusing user interface than PCs?
You must have an upside down brain if you think that. Mac's are the easiest computers to use, period. Windows are much harder and way more confusing to use, not to mention all the annoying problems with tech that occur (not saying they don't occur with Macs, but they are less with Apple computers).

Apple does sell high quality and reliable products. I found a beat up Red iPod Touch 8gig 2 years ago and it's still working as of now, in fact, I'm using it right now as I'm typing.
Nightwakka : Then why do macs have a more confusing user interface than PCs?
It only seems confusing because you've been used to Windows all your life. Macs are surprisingly (or maybe not) streamlined in their controls; Command-, for instance, opens up Preferences in any Mac app, so it is consistent. Command-T for many will open either a Tab or the Font window. And at the TED talk, that is true; there was an article about that as well somewhere on digg, saying how everyday people like things that do one thing well and that's all rather than some multi-functional device that can do everything. Sure a power user would love it, but most people seem to like things simple.

If only Microsoft had advertised the Zune, I would've gotten that. D:

The Zune is geared towards the music junkies basically what an MP3 is supposed to do. The iPod series is geared towards the masses, which is why is sells so much. Plus, it got in the game faster with a new and more intuitive way of listening to music. I mean, you uses walkman anymore? haha jk. :3

I much prefer windows to mac. The majority of computer people I know do too. Macs work, because they are very limited in what they do. They get away with this because while limited, they do cover most of what the normal user needs. PCs have more problems because they are more capable. A PC can do every single thing a mac can do, and far more.
