*Reads this on a sign next to a church, while driving home from work.* In all honesty, I don't care what you believe in, but please refrain from putting to shame mankind's reputation as a species composed of intelligent creatures by writing garbage about a concept that you fail to grasp at all.

Somewhere a long time ago I saw an article by a woman who claimed evolution was just one big lie because her son's hamster didn't evolve overnight.

Well, the theory is, we evolved from the same ancestor, not from monkeys. And we adapt to our living conditions, monkeys are well adapted to live in trees out in the open. We are adapted to live in houses with clothes on and to use utensils and tools.
foamy666 : if wartortles evolve from squirtles then why are there still squirtles? religion makes me lol
Using pokemon references to argue your point makes me lol. Also, realize not all religious people think that. You're judging a huge concept that has affected humans more than anything else by a silly little sign.
Canoe : Note that the article was written by Faux News. Theist: "Science tells you the ages of rocks, religion tells you the rock of ages. Science and religion are non-overlapping magisteria." Now, let us suppose that we found evidence that Jesus was indeed born of a virgin, would a theist dismiss it since science is irrelevant? No, of course not, the evidence would be trumpeted to the skies. The hypocrism of the common theist continues to astound me.
It's important to note that when Stephen Gould wrote on that concept he did, in all intent and purpose, declare that science can often lead to the development of religion, truly, even encouraged it. So it's not really hypocrisy (Not hypocrism, by the way). But in the sense of someone "trumpeting" something that works for them versus against, is a clearly human trait. Considering we are often rife with hypocrisy in a good majority of our ideals and actions. This isn't a bash or anything, but I feel it needs to be noted that the very thing we often do. We use to crucify - no pun intended- religion with. But yes, Fox News can often be LulWorthy. Bill Lol'Reilly anyone?

I am a cynical ass; I would have pulled over and walked in there demanding someone explain the sign to me. I would have debated with them then walked out on them after crushing them.
foamy666 : way too many of them do.
Define 'too many', and give me a source. A lot may just be people who don't understand the concept because it's never been taught to them. It's like asking a fifth grader to explain how a car works.

Not only was the sign ignorant, but probably false also. Monkeys and humans have a common ancestor, humans do not derive from monkeys. My religious views: Evolution and all historic events like the big bang did take place, but with divine intervention. In other words, there had to be a greater force to actually create all this because the odds of us being created through mutations and historic events is insanely low.
