Would the world be better off without religion?

I personally think it would, i have never seen any good come from religion. religion only spreads hate and seperates people by creating standards. or; if i could go back in time and make a new religion that just had the only rule be for everyone to get along and love eachother to go into heaven. (It's like chrstianity but without the persecution.) But, other than that: i think religion has really just slowed down the world and seperated people =/ but that's just my opinion...

Religion =/= Race. I agree to some extent due to some weird practices. I am thankful for certain things religion brought with it like giving people moral values to follow excluding some absurd details that people will bring up soon. Without religion..... The world would be pretty much be just as messed up as it is now, if not more violent.

You can't blame all religions when only one did something bad (not pointing out). That's like... gaaah. Same thing goes for a person in the religion, you can't blame it all.

[/quote] I dissagree. you don't need religion to have moral values. even when i was a kid and had no idea about religion. i was still very nice and had good morals. Humanity comes from humans. being good/bad is just in our nature regardless =/

I see religion as an inherently good concept, it's just been corrupted by people. Though we may actually be better off without it, I don't really think in that sort of way since I don't blame religion, just the people who corrupt it.

I didn't say it was necessary to be in a religion to have values, rather it had some influences towards such behaviour. This of course can be seen if you look a bit closer in the eyes of people who are actually living evidences of this.

Pinning the blame solely on religion like that is pretty much the cause of problems. Take out politics, or social status, or anything else that has a "you're either this or that" mentality and you have the same problems. Getting rid of one thing does not make things better. Deciduous's view is more accurate, all bias aside.

[/quote] First off: You havent lived my life. growing up i was around drama all the time. i rarely had anyone tell me what i can and cannot do. And; Religion was made by humans. the fact that something that gives people morals like you say. all came from a HUMAN. That means if the people who made religions that gave many morals and values. that means they didn't need a religion at first to be good humans no? i can understand your point but, just pointing that out^^

[/quote] Yeah there are many evils in the world, but it's not anybody's place to say which we should get rid of or which we'd be better off without. Obviously somebody with bad experiences with religion or a strong dislike for religion would think it's an evil worth removing, but that's bias. It could happen with any number of other things.
