axe or sword ?

im making a hero and i really want to use an axe but every guide says go sword so im looking for peoples opinions ( please use detailed messages though)

axe heroes get owned by brandish. Brandish is one swing and one stab, and axe stab damage is horrible. While sword damage is even at 100/100 swing/stab, axe damage is something like 105/75? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the idea. Axe heroes will get one larger number and one significantly smaller number on each brandish. They average less damage than sword heroes and need godly equips to make up the difference i believe.

i dont have a problem funding it but if im going to ptu my time into making a 120 + char then i want to knwo whats useful i plan on doing axe regardless of what the stakes are they look kooler and are way rarer to find i will godly scroll it myself maybe the balance pacth coming out soon may help with the slash stab deal with brandish see all my chars are 70 + mages and one cygnus knight archer so i dont know anything about warriors haha i train in like lvl 50 spots at lvl 30 which is extremely humerous im hopeing i can also find an active guild who will help in my struggle to make a hero lol bc i am kinda noob at heros

Axes are and always will be alot cooler and better than swords. But for a Hero i think Swords have the advantage. As for Maces it isn't as big of a disadvantage for Paladins. I just chose them over swords because theyre sooo much cooler! If you can afford swords, just use swords.

Well I think like 90% of sword heroes/ palies chose sword because swords are cooler looking (like the wings and ST). There's no good looking axe imo. I believe axes do more dmg but they are also slower than swords. Mostly in ms, if you even manage to get an extra brandish or two in per sec, you do a whole lot more dmg than anything a few extra wep attack can counterbalance. Speed> extra power

I had the same question a while ago and I did some research on the subject. Axe damage is very deceiving. If you only look at the range it seems like it is just higher max and lower minimum when compared to swords. The hidden factor is in the games swing mechanic. If you perform a stabbing motion with an axe weapon you take a severe damage penalty. I believe it is 25-30% damage reduction. Swords hit the same regardless of the animation, so they suffer no damage penalty. So at first it looks like you are hitting higher numbers than sword wielders due to the numbers but you aren't noticing those extra weak hits factoring in. The real pain here comes from the skill Brandish. This skill is a forced 1 swing, 1 stab animation. Meaning that you are going to get 1 regular hit and 1 penalty hit. A sword user will get two regular hits in. People will tell you that axes are a lot cheaper than swords, and they are, but with this forced penalty on your Brandish skill, even with a godly axe you will only be on par with an average scrolled sword user in terms of your average damage. So if funding is not an issue and you are planning to reach 4th job, I strongly suggest you choose swords. - Good luck
