is Pheonix Useless?

I made a thread last night about training at newties and I said that I was only gonna raise hawk to 15 so that I would only have the minimum to get pheonix in 4th job. But someone said that pheonix was useless and that I should lvl hawk to at least 21. Is this true?

Pheonix is not useless but you only use it in boss runs or certain cases. So i strongly suggest you get to to at least lvl 21.

Well, it's not useless, it's just not neccesary. It's okay to put a point in it for the extra damage, I suppose, but I wouldn't support adding any points further into it. I never use it for training or bossing.

ok well my current build plan is as follows: 30 AR 20 MB 20 Puppet 10 Thrust 28 Inferno 30 Strafe 15 Hawk What should I switch out to give hawk more points?

If your going inferno, may as well max it. I say 30 inferno, 21 hawk, and 4 thrust.

hawk is awesome for stunning =] i went to 29 with it. Works amazingly and yes phoenix is awesome for bosses! Since you cant stun bosses =P and phoenix hits pretty good dmg at lvl 1 for me 7k sometimes.

well I have 10 in thrust because with that and my end game equips I will have 140 speed. I only have 28 inferno because I think lvls 29 and 30 (only increasing damage by 1% each) are useless. Is Inferno really used in 4th job, or is it just used to gather mobs?

Hawk is awesome for stunning monsters that can do plenty of damage to you (E.g: Skeles). I really only use Phoenix on my friend's BM to kill small mobs that don't do a lot of damage to you and bosses.

leave hawk at lvl 29. lvl 29 = lvl 30, except that lvl 30 lasts 2 seconds more. also, on your build up there, you are adding 2 extra points you don't get. 3rd job gives 151 total SP; and your build up there gives 153 SP

Yeah, you'll be using Hawk through 4th job. Such a shame Phoenix hasn't got a built-in stun function :[

[/quote] About the Thrust, that depends how much speed you get from your current equips AND if you are planning on getting a better bow that has speed or not. Personally, I have like, waaaay too much speed on my MM. x( +6 speed from MoN (I thought I would never get one because I kept dcing in the boss stages many times when I try and cwkpq), +11 speed from Dragon Shiner Cross, +3 speed from Witch's Purple Belt, +1 speed from my Dark Anes overall, and +29 speed from level 19 thrust = 10% speed over the max (which is 140%). I think Lilin's level 1 ring gives +1 speed too. Whatever you do...don't do what I did lol. x(

Pheonix is used for high levels, against a certain boss. (there is a thread on this, like BM's dream boss or sumthin) you get to the top of the rope, wait for him to come near yo, jump off, pheonix will attract him. you then go left, set up a puppet, and fire away with hurricane. He dosnt attack you, he cant hurt the puppet, and has 15m EXP, and 200m HP. on 4x, that would be 60m EXP. also, you can skip thrust if you want. hawk is reconmended to ATLEAST 21.
