| Memories of Vancouver 2010 Part 1: We were the pride of the country, We painted the town red, But although the Olympics are over, They're still in my head. And every day, And every night, I think of a way, To bring them back into sight. "The best two weeks of my life", Many others would agree, When the Olympics were on, Everyone was enveloped in glee. "The best Winter Games" as many would decree. Part 2: It is this Winter Games that we shouldn't forget, Before they were on, many thought hosting was a regret. Alex started it off by winning the first gold, But 13 more would be had before the story was told. On each of these occasions, the country would cheer. The audiences screamed "WOOO!" with all their might, Their applause thundered like the fireworks each night. Part 3: We should be proud of our athletes, Their efforts were bold, But even though our turn is over, Their stories will still be told. **Note: Being a Vancouverite myself, some parts were specific to Canada, and sometimes Vancouver itself. The part about Alexander getting gold refers to Alexander Bilodeau, the first Canadian to get gold while Canada was hosting the Olympic Games, as well as the first Canadian gold during the games. Canada has never gotten a gold medal wile hosting with two chances: Montreal 1976 Summer Olympics or Calgary 1988 Winter Olympics. The 13 other golds also refers to Canada who got a total of 14 Gold medals. This is two new records: Most golds by a host country during the Winter Games (maybe Summer too, I don't know) as well as most golds at a single Winter Olympics (Also, maybe even summer too). And yes, there were fireworks each night, and Vancouver was pretty loud if you were downtown when we won a medal. |
