How do you reformat a computer?

As in completely deleting everything and restarting the computer as if it were new, no programs, etc. I want to do this with my old laptop to see if it'll run any better. It has a bunch of games and stuff on there that i dont need anymore. I used to know the name for this procedure, but i forgot

It's called "reformatting," and you need an OS disk (or restore disk preferably if it's a brand-name computer) to do this.

Reinstall your OS/program like Windows, but you need the Genuin code if you restart it completly NEW,

If you have the OS disk, just put it in, restart and load from the CD, but note: write down your hardware info before you reformat so it'll be easy to get the drivers.

- Step 1: Insert disc into optical drive. - Step 2: Restart computer - Step 3: Hit key to bring up menu that allows you to boot from a different drive and select your local optical drive (F8 is usually pressed to bring up this menu on most systems) - Step 4: Follow the instructions that appear. Format the hard drive you are using, and reinstall the OS. That's really just the gist of what you do, but if you want a good guide on how to do it, you might want to Google it, as i can't find one off the top of my head.

It's just called formatting and nothing else. Anyways, get a boot disk. Change primary boot device to floppy(cd-rom drive if you have a boot cd), save settings and reboot. Give the command: Format c: Choose format NTFS, don't use quick format and don't give it a label. Now your done and have a empty drive.

OT: You might want to back up your music/movies/media onto an external hard drive so you don't have to go looking for them and/or lose important stuff.
