I was invited to a Horntail run today, I went in as a backup runner for a group in my alliance. Lots of people didn't show up, so they let me in despite my low level. Things went perfectly at first, I made it through the Left Head with no problems, no lag, no funky errors. Normally when I fight Zakum I have to change my quality every time a body dies, so I checked my quality window after the first head was dead. My settings were only halfway visible for some reason, a visual glitch that only occurs when I forget to change my quality at Zakum all the up to 3rd body. Panicking slightly, I lowered it all the way using my own memory of what the window looks -- I'm actually fairly used to that. Usually when that happens, it prevents a Zakum disconnection but doesn't fix any visual errors and, oddly, all visual errors were suddenly reverted. When we got to the Right Head, I noticed that every time it cast a skill it would disappear for a few seconds. Realizing that Zakum again had a similar error, I began to change my quality every time I noticed the settings window disappearing. This didn't exactly work, and after being forced to change quality another 2-3 times, my client suddenly crashed, giving me the error "2,147,483,647 - Not enough memory to complete the action" or something along those lines. Considering I didn't even get so far as fighting Horntail itself, I'm kinda worried if I'll ever safely be able to run there again. • When I spoke to the organizer, she told me that almost all computers disconnect when on their first Horntail runs, and to try again next time there's a run. She assured me that changing my quality every time a limb dies would put me in the clear. • Personally, I'm worried about my software. I was planning to get Windows 7 some time soon, as I get a student discount and can just about afford it. I currently run on Windows Vista 32 Bit. I don't really mind the flaws of Vista, they're grossly over-exaggerated and far outweigh the benefits if you ask me. Still, I'd be much more willing to switch to 7 if it'd fix this. • On the other hand, I'm fully aware that my hardware isn't incredible. If it's possible that upgrading my RAM or something similar would help, I'd definitely do so. If an expensive piece of hardware is required, I may just get 7 and give up on Horntail entirely until I can afford a brand new computer. My computer specs: Hard Drive: 500 GB (180 used?) RAM: 2 GB Processor: Dual Core, 2.3 GHz each. Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO, 512 MB Note: I never lag on Maplestory, this was no exception. My internet provider is amazing, I never experience any sort of lag unless it's caused by the server itself.
cooljoe226 : sounds like a problem with the graphics card try getting a new one or over clocking it a bit
I prefer my hardware to not-fry thank you very much.

Your RAM is horrible. LOL, no offense. I'd say that most computers disconnect during their first HT, but yeah... most computers have more than 2gb of RAM. Upgrade your RAM and you'd be in good shape for your next run (:

1GB of ram is all you need for maplestory, even in the most extreme areas such as HT. Just avoid running excess background programs.

definately get more RAM 2gb is barely enough, you should be 100% fine without even changing graphic settings if you had 4gb ram, i have basically same setup except i have 4gb and i do completely fine at HT and zak without ever touching display settings or graphics settings

Your hardware* is fine. I say this all the time, the majority of the problem with lag is due to the connection speed and the server sided lag, much of which you can do little to nothing about (which is why computer specs do little to nothing against dc hackers). The hardware of the client matters little to none so long as the network card is not broken, and the computer is not a piece of crap (which yours isn't, obviously there's room for improvement, but its far more than capable enough to run maple, even at it's most taxing). Granted your story seems to be a little dismal, my best guess would be that ur run leader is right about maple having trouble processing a first run. i cant really see why, but as i have come to learn, maple is not coded very cleanly. ur specs are fine, but if i may ask, what is the exact model of ur processor? also adding more ram will make absolutely no difference unless for some reason u were running a lot of stuff in the background when u tried to run (which i highly doubt). anyone who says otherwise does not know how ram serves its function in tandem with the cpu.

I wonder why that organizer would tell you that a lot of first timers dc o-o I run HT's here in Broa and the reason people dc isn't because of it being there first run but because of there computer problems. I see a few people posting that you should downgrade to XP and I honestly agree with them. RAM is NOT your problem here, so do NOT change your RAM (unless you're thinking of upgrading for other reasons lol) But I have to add that you shouldn't downgrade to XP unless you're really going to HT a lot, if not then it's a waste of money x: It seems like you have no problems with other bosses so don't downgrade unless you HT constantly. There has yet to be a clear solution to this Vista/Windows 7 problem with HT. A lot of different people do a lot of different things to solve there dcing problems. My boyfriend runs on Vista and he does this. Go high background resolution through the first 2 pre-lim heads then all the way down on the background resolution at main. He has been doing this since HT came out in GMS and its worked for him the whole way but other people who have tried dced. My guildie has a solution where she alt tabs at every pre-lim head and every body part in main when they die. Has been working for her for the last 5 months but others who use it dc using this method. There is another solution posted in my guild BBS but I can't see it since BBS is dead but I can PM you if you really want to know. Basically the whole point of me telling you these solutions was to let you know that there are A LOT of ways you can stop this dcing but you're going to need to HT a lot to see what works for you. You should try and get into more runs and fiddle around with alt tabbing and background resolutions. But like I said before, if you're going to start HT'ing a lot and none of those solutions are working for you than downgrade. If you don't want to downgrade then don't give up! I've known people who just kept dcing at HT but they were persistent and after a bit they just stopped dcing for some reason, was very random. If you have questions you can PM me on Basil or find me in game if you like. I'll keep an eye on this thread. Good luck! :D

Let me know if those solutions do not work for you, I'm sure I can pester my Vista/Windows 7 runners for there ways on handling HT.

Your RAM should be of no concern. My specs are worse than yours and i HT fine. People ususally alt tab between preheads then main room. It`s probably a windows vista/7 glitch.

His computer is "fine"? His computer is more than perfect to run MS. There is absoultely no need to upgrade your hardware whatsoever. What you describe could be either an internet service,first-run-lag or a software problem. However, since you mentioned this happens regulary at Zakum, the first-run-lag option is not possible. If this repeats,I would suggest formatting your computer or hiring another ISP. Best luck!

I haven't personally done HT runs, but I doubt more memory will help. MapleStory never uses that much anyways, so adding more when you're not even using all of it is pointless. I've never had MapleStory use more than 400MB of memory. The downgrade to XP thing will probably work, from what I've heard. MapleStory is just badly coded, and no amount of memory on your computer will fix that.

How are you getting a max meso error from lag? O.O Any computer with 2 GB ram should be able to casually run MS, there shouldnt be a hardware problem, so maybe its cuz you're on vista. Idk if this is anywhere related but whenever i turn MS into the window mode on Windows 7, a weird error code shows up and its all random letters and numbers then a message asking me to reinstall some driver, then i just cancel it and everything is ok O.O.. Uh Try lowering quality and just keeping it low, cuz changing the quality in itself creates a lot of lag. Also what are your internet specs? Cable, fiber or dialup or what? edit- Yeah your RAM is horrible but its still more than enough to run maple. If you're getting a max meso error then maybe it has something to do with... having too many mesos or something... or MS didnt install properly in which case you should reinstall. Or a bit of a far fetched possibility: idk your internet but perhaps you have so much lag that an earlier transaction emerges way too late in middle of your HT run and you get D/c'd O.o Try relogging right before the run
