What I find extremely odd is the Arch Mage summons, did Wizet or Nexon mix them up or were they on purpose. Like, F/P Arch Mages get Elquines, a ice demon, and I/L Arch Mages get Ifrit, a fire demon. If i'm right, a F/P mage would specialize in fire and an I/L mage would be more adapt to ice, so why are their summons based on the others specialty?
AltairHawk : Well, it DOES have a reason, although I believe it is really stupid... The thing is, Elquines does an Ice-based attack that increases the power of FIRE moves and Ifrit does a move that inceases the power of Ice moves. The argument is that if your summon burns a monster, your ice will be more effective, and vice versa. Personally, I think it is really stupid, and doesn't even make too much sense. Why not have Elquines freeze and give extra damage for further Ice moves? How does being frozen make you more susceptible to Fire? One would think it would be the other way around.... So, I would love it if they got reversed to the more obvious choices; it would make more sense, would fit a lot better with the colour-schemes of both classes, and would generally fir the definition of an Archmage SPECIALIZING in a specific element...
Its not stupid, and you explained it poorly. Lemme re-explain this to everyone, so they can understand what it does, and why the summons are opposite for each class. One of the reason Arch mages get a summon opposite of their element, is to work with one other skill, Ice demon (for I/L), and Fire demon (For F/P). Now, Lets take Ice demon and Ifrit for example (For I/L AM). Ice demon would make monsters weak to fire, and also negate other resistances to the monsters (Like memory monks, which resist thunder attacks), Now when Ifrit hits this mob of memory monks that were hit by ice demon, this would double the damage done by fire attacks, and allow me to sweep mobs with neutral damage using Chain lightning. One full sweep of mobs using a summon + a mob skill. Useful, am I right? On my own opinion, no, they shouldn't get summons respected to their element, cuz then they wouldn't have such a useful technique. A technique that is often overlooked by people that fail to understand it. Also, it gives a "taste" of what the opposite element HAS. F/P + Eliquines: Eiquines does less damage but can freeze, making it a useful summon for newts. I/L Already can freeze with blizzard/Ice strike/other ice skills, so why would they need eliquines? As for I/L and Ifrit: I/L have slightly lower damage, hit alot of mobs, just like a F/P or Bishop, and they can freeze, so Ifrit adds some power to what they already have, balancing them out with the other mages. So does everyone understand now? I'd be glad to answer questions pertaining to this technique and description that I just typed out. P.S: In case you didn't know, F/P & I/L Specialize in 2 elements, not one, and personally, its ok to have them have something opposite of their type, it adds to the irony of things, if that's the word... P.P.S: Also, for your thoughts on ice making things weak to fire...Think of when ice melts. What melts it? Heat, aka FIRE. Also when you cool something that is hot...that's why fire demon makes things weak to ice.

I understand how it works, but my point is that each Ice Demon could make something weak to Ice, and Fire to Fire. Therefore, if the summons were flipped, this method of training would still remain, except that it would make a lot more sense and keep with the colour scheme. Also, your example sucks...Freezing water to ice and then melting it returns it to its previous state: water, so you aren't really doing anything at all. And what the hell do you mean by "Also when you cool something that is hot...that's why fire demon makes things weak to ice." ? What on earth does that mean? Again, heating something up just to cool it has no real effect.....cooling frostbitten fingers is a lot worse than heating them....continuing to burn a man is a lot worse than starting to cool him....Doing both elements is stupid and useless....damage comes from having an element to the EXTREME, not reducing its effect with t

Why not make the Demons make something weak to their own elements, and swap the Summons, giving Elquines to I/Ls and Ifrit to F/Ps. Colour scheme is very important to me, and it is the one thig I don't like about Mages. Elquines ia acually alright for F/Ps since it goes well with Paralyze, but Ifrit with I/Ls just looks out of place and silly.
Just saying, your frostbite metaphor is a poor example: "Reusable hand warmers or pocket hand warmer cannot be used to cure frostbite when it has set in because due to sudden heat impact the frostbite will get worse." Suddenly warming something up after freezing it DOES cause severe damage, please know your physics/biology before throwing that in there. Another example, if you freeze a water mains pipe and then suddenly heat it up, of course it's going to explode! (and I assume the same would happen in reverse if you put a pipe in a fire in then chuck it into a can of liquid nitrogen). The demon and summons relationship for archmages makes sense in terms of physics, why doesn't it for you?

You are supposed to combo the summon with the Demon for more damage, although this is a weak system in my opinion.

It has to do with the elemental attributes in the Maple World. Apparently, mages aren't able to wield magic of the opposite element. So I/L mages can't use fire, and F/P mages can't use ice. Fortunately, summons are separate from the actual mage, so they can be of any element. So that's the whole reason Alcaster made the summons, so that each mage could still have the power of the opposite element with them. Well this is if you're looking at it from a storyline kind of view. :/ It's all in the Inverse Attributes quest.

AnasFOh my God you guys are so wrong. D: Elquines and Ifrit do not change a monster's elemental properties. That's Ice and Fire Demon, in which case, each class has their respective correct elements. The story is... Alcaster admits that you are a legendary Magician, an Archmage per se. Supposedly, you've reached your limits and have mastered the art of Ice and Lightning, or Fire and Poison. However, you still wish to learn and study magic, and train. As such, Alcaster suggests that you learn some fire magic (in the case of F/P AM's, ice magic). However, it seems that your body has such a strong affinity to your respective elements, that it should be impossible to use spells from the opposite element. (Hell, you drank Lava for Fire Demon and special ice for Ice Demon). As such, he suggests you use a summon in order to use magic of the opposite element. This is also why Elemental Wands and Elemental Amplification does not affect Ifrit and Elquines.
