can someone explain gaviota?

why is gaviota better than octopus? maybe builds seem to favor gaviota over ice splitter/burner (they leave one of the two at lvl 26) but i was thinking about maxing both splitter and burner and not gaviota. can you use gaviota and octopus at the same time? especially since splitter/burner will be stronger after balance patch

Dont max burner? You will NEVER use it. NEVER. NEVER. Max ice, octo, and gaviota. Why? Because you need them for Aerial strike and wrath of the octopus later on when you're a corsair.

you need level 15 gaviota to use air strike once you're a corsair, that's why they put points into it.

Gaviota is useless. air strike is strong. you only need 15 gaviota to get air strike. some builds may say 1 point in gaviota is useful early on in 3rd job--its not, but its fun to play with. I suggest 26 splitter, 30 burner, 15 gaviota, 30 octo, 20 burst fire, 30 homing. In the end what you do is up to you but you MUST HAVE 15 gaviota, 30 octopus, and 30 homing. Distribute the remaining points between burst fire (which you should max), ice splitter and flamethrower. contrary to what the guy up there ^ said, you should max burner. It is true that its next to useless in 4th job, but its your only real spammable mob skill (splitter + burner combo) when ur boat breaks, and its well worth having in 3rd. Splitter is not used for damage, only for the freeze effect (which maxes in duration at level 26), whereas burner about dishing out damage. This way, you only need to carry blaze capsules to max out damage from burner. the damage of ice splitter is crap anyway. Even if you choose not to ever use burner, 4 more points into splitter does next to nothing. The difference in the two builds is that burner is left at 11, and gaviota is maxed. Maxing gaviota is a complete waste of 15 SP. If you max it, its seriously like throwing 15 3rd job SP down the toilet, because once you put 1 point into air strike in 4th job, the level that gaviota was prior makes absolutely no difference. leave it at 15. oh and pardon my inconsistent word useage. burner = flamethrower; splitter = ice splitter

Flamethrower + Ice splitter, ok you say you use it to freeze but the second you use flamethrower the monster is free from its frozen-state. (Smarter to freeze + use your STRONGER attacks.) You're not going to be killing newts with flamethrower, right? About Gaviota, yes level 1 aerial strike DOES outdamage gaviota even when maxed but think of it this way; You need to demount from ship to use aerial strike... when using gaviota you can keep spamming cannon without having to stop to demount or summon a gaviota actually. The delay is very small... but for training yes it's useless.
