Considering takeing up Boxing

Ok, so I'm 15 (16 in less then a month) and I'm at one of the most annoying points in my life: I can't get anywhere because I need to drive with an adult. Anyways, I was considering taking up boxing as a sport. I wouldn't go pro or anything close to that since I'll never be good enough, but I've always envied boxers on how they can take those hits to the face and gut while still standing. I'd love to build that kind of endurance and muscle strength, while also providing a fun work out, since I need to loose some weight as well. I don't really know how to bring it up to my parents, since I'm at a point where I have two and a half months to complete basically a whole school year's worth of work (worlds largest procrastinator right here), and they claim I have little responsibility. I've also dropped many "passions" throughout my life and I'm sure they aren't too happy (Guitar, Karate after 4 years, soccer, Little League baseball, gym memberships, etc.). Definitely not a great record... So, any tips? Would this be a good idea or just another waste of time and a fleeting passion as well?

Heh, nope. I'd like to consider myself 16, but I'm definitely not 18. Can't wait to get my permit in a month though. One thing I'm really looking forward to.

I forgot to add, I don't know where to go. No idea if there are any local boxing clubs or areas. I'm going back to High School next year so they might have an afterschool club, but the best I can remember is wrestling, which is something I do not, and will not ever be able to do.
