Do gunslingers really stink until 4th job?

I recently made a slinger because I wanted to make something that was similar to an Assassin/Night Walker but a bit different in flavor. I've heard through out my "maple career" that slingers suck until 4th job, though I didn't think its that extreme. I'm not really funded either, so I'm wondering, do slingers really stink through 4th job? And if so, what makes them bad? Thanks in advance. :D

1st/2nd job they are hitting alright, it is just the weapon atks on the guns are low and the skills they are maxing is all preparing them for the future. 3rd job and 4th job they are amazing

My experience: 1st Job: Sucks ass, just like any other class 2nd Job: Decent, not that bad 3rd Job: Boring as hell 4th Job: Dunno Don't know why everyone makes a big deal out of 3rd job. Only good thing about it is the damage improvement, really. Everything else is meh until 4th job.

Outlaws do decent damage in 3rd job, but probably not better than Sins/NWs. Damage though is not really the problem, it's just the limited training spots that can test your patience.

Thank you :]. I have decided to continue with my gunslinger because the flavor outweighs the damage.

1st Job - Weak but pretty fun IMO 2nd Job - Once again, very weak and leveling is slow compared to other classes. 3rd Job - You finally catch up to other classes but still, Hermits outdamage us. Training spots are very limited so leveling is incredibly slow and boring. 4th Job - Start of 4th job is pretty painful as well because the ship has low HP. Also low BSC means you haven't reached your full potential. After that, they completely own.

To be honest. Slingers are made for the fun of the skills they use. But, once they hit third job there damage starts to become powerful. Yes, the training might be hard at 70+ but atleast it's fun. And you can always get BF leech like i do. ;D

there are so many topics like this one. gunslingers suck because they have horrible damage. a lot of ppl argue that they make up for the horrible damage with attack speed which is false because you will almost never be standing still which ruins the concept of the speed making up for the damage. outlaws deal more damage but they are not really better off simply because you will be training on the same map for literally 40-50 levels.

Also once you max burst fire nothing else really changes anything in third job, so you really have no skills to look forward to and motivate you. You'll be training in pretty much exactly the same way at level 80 as you will be at 119.

There technically are alternatives to Newts, it's just that they don't give nearly as much EXP (I think it's like 25%/hr at Newts and 20%/hr anywhere else, so an additional hour to level).
