What happens if I dont buy the CS mastery book? Do you need that book to get the skill Magic Guard? Or do you need it to get it past level 5? Or what does it, and is it that important to buy it?

No. You can mts to get nx or you can do those surveys. I made 6k nx in 2 hours today.
