Any older Basilers notice this (school related)?

Teachers from middle up through high school would always bust your balls for making small errors in citation syntax on research papers, but in college everyone is very lax about it. A lot of the papers I write don't even have a citation method (MLA, APA, etc) specified by the professor.

I'm not in college yet but my teachers throughout my school life heavily stressed on MLA citations. Especially when I was at an All IB Highschool XD

My teachers in HS were picky...College is pretty much the same so far.

I mean I've had big term papers where citations were important, but never in college have I gotten a paper back and points were taken off because I put a source's date of publication in the wrong place in the bibliography or something

Nope, my tutors didn't throw a fit, they just pointed out I should fix whatever. It was like that in school and university.

I suppose it's the amount of work they have to do. My English professor didn't want to spend too much time grading everything, so the essays (though there were 1 or 2 every week) were short enough where he could grade one completely in ~15 or so. He was also picky about our citations though...

I wish mine was this lax. Every paper I have ever written was judged pretty harshly on citation syntax. I failed a paper once because I didn't do APA correctly. This was in upper level microbio.

I want to go to whatever school you're going to. My professors are nuts about citation and syntax. I once got marked down two full letter grades because I used an extra comma twice in a five page paper.

No, I don't know wtf you're talking about. The university I go to have us do all of that nonsense + a bunch of other BS. You ever have to do a 20 page Literature Review + a long ass paper + citations? No? I will say that I find it funny that most Judges I've talked to through e-mail (trying to learn more about my career path) habitually butcher the English Language: "u hav 2 realize..." Etc, etc.

Got 2 points off out of a hundred for every period, space, or whatever wrong on my papers in electronic research. Record was a -18.

I used the "Questia" website and LOVED it! Not only does it do all the citation work for you, in whatever format you need, but you can do all your research on line. There was a subscription fee of $99/year a couple of years ago, dunno if it's gone up, but I did most of my papers without setting foot in a library.

My teachers don't stress about it that much. Pretty much, if you actually have citations, and showed a good enough effort to cite them correctly (the title of the book could be italicized, underlined, or in quotes, doesn't matter) you get credit.
