And we were paired up with them to take to our third period classes. Naturally, this involves a lot of conversation Never before have I ever felt so conversationally challenged. It's as if I suddenly turned into some sort of linguistic invalid through the course of ten minutes. Numerous times I had to borrow their electronic dictionary just to find a word. Of course, being Japanese and having Japanese manners, they'll never say that you suck at something even if they really think so. I'm not saying that that's how they thought, but I wouldn't be surprised... At the end of the day, my partner was gracious enough to hand me a parting gift while I stood there stupidly with drool dripping out of the corner of my mouth and nothing to give back. Somebody give me a corner to weep in.

They gave me a 2-pack of pencils, some Japanese fruit thingy and a pack of origami paper, along with a handwritten letter in Engrish written on a nice piece of stationery and sealed in a little envelope. Nothing too special in and of themselves, but it's the thought that counts... @Above: Each host-partner pair goes to the host's class. That means that we take them to whatever class we have next.

I'm sure he's thrilled; it's very foreign to foreigners for Americans (Or any western civilization) to take the time and effort to learn their language. Trying to speak it is polite in and of itself. When I went to France and attempted to speak French, they were much more polite to me.

You should've practiced more, and I mean a lot more :x I was fine with conversation when some Japanese students came to my school on from exchange program, though
