| It's about why we should legalize same-sex marriage. (Or why we should support it) I'm mostly concerned about content, quality, good thesis, and if it leads anywhere when you're done reading it. If there are any mistakes or if there's a passage I could improve on I would definitely appreciate the constructive criticism! In the United States, there is social unrest regarding the governments denial of the right to marry for homosexuals. Plenty of people are completely against gay marriage; and many are fighting for equal treatment in the on-going battle. Like many controversial clashes, the fight for approving same-sex marriage will take time. Denying gays the right to share a sacred bond of love because it is not how society deems fit or that it will negatively impact our future is unjust. The definition of marriage has expanded much over the past decade. Some still cling to the fact that marriage is solely defined as a sacred bond between a man and a woman. Nowadays many, if not all, of the major dictionaries such as Oxford and Webster have dropped gender specifications and have recognized homosexual marriage. In the past, slavery was legal, African-Americans drank out of separate drinking fountains, and unequal rights for women ran rampant across the country. But one by one the evils that kindle the flames of discrimination fell to the feet of justice. Homosexual marriage is an issue no different from the rest. The oppressors provide homosexuals heaping mounds of discrimination and no rights to marry. The 8th Amendment talks about freedom of speech and the freedom of living life. When one talks about equal rights of homosexuals, he or she will be more than happy to say that a homosexual should have the same rights in jobs, public accommodations, protection, housing, and government benefits. But the moment one mentions gay marriage, all the senseless chatter about equality halts dead in its tracks. Many members of society oppose gay marriage because they see it as nothing but sexual perversion. They are ignorant and intolerant to the fact that a homosexual couple can care and love each other just as well as a heterosexual couple can, if not more. Sexual activity, even between heterosexual couples, is simply one way of expressing their love and affection towards each other. Homosexuals have hearts, take a scalpel and cut them open, everything inside will still be the same. Some people will take a stance and claim that marriage is for procreation and thus can only occur between a man and a woman. Though it is true that homosexual couples are not physically capable of bearing a child without outside assistance, what about mothers who are infertile or fathers who are impotent? What about the elderly who are no longer capable of having children? Should the government deny them the same rights because they are unable to conceive? Others would debate that a homosexual can in fact marry, but once the smoke and mirrors clear away, it must be with someone |
