Character Verification Process?

To ensure more accurate characters and to discourage fake auctions, should Basil have a verify character option? Some accounts are made with fake characters, used to defame or impersonate the real owner, for different reasons (i.e Level 200s, flaming thread, etc). The implementation of a character verify system would be quite simple. The fame medal actually inspired my idea for it. You would submit a screenshot of you in-game saying your BM ID and your character IGN, to verify that particular character on Basil. To prevent "appearance" fake characters, un-verified characters would take the picture of a grey-blob, or be refused to be shown as your character to other users. Verified characters would be given a green status, medal, or some other reward. Other penalties might apply too for ones not verified, i.e. Post limit, auction limit? Good idea? :3

It would be a good feature if Basil just started out. But since it is so far in and has so many users, it is no longer practical. This process would be too long and tedious for MrBasil to handle. Kevvl recently posted that Basil has close to 200k registered users. If even 1k of users submitted screens, it would take MrBasil days to verify all of them. If I wanted to add a new character, it could take a while for it to be verified. This feature could also cause issues between users/traders. There are many names that can be faked. Names with "w" or "l" can be faked in-game to look like other character names.

[/quote] Well perhaps moderators could give a helping hand, whenever possible. Level of course would also be checked, regarding fake names with similar letters. I'm not saying this suggestion would immediately take effect after implementation; it would take work but would benefit the BM community in the longer run.

i think it'd be too much work for the mrbasil/mods. if anyone ever impersonates you you can report them under "Someone has taken my player name"

In about 3 seconds I can select a random person, and imitate them. I also have the luxury of deleting the character on basil afterwards to avoid a ban. The same goes for auctions. Lots of fake auctions are never really checked nor deleted.
